ExecutedToday.com has a profile of Giuseppe Zangara, who was, well, executed on this date in 1933 for shooting Chicago mayor Anton Cermak in Miami. Zangara was trying to shoot Franklin Roosevelt, as the story goes--or was he? The going conspiracy theory is that Zangara meant to kill Cermak, who was attempting to crack down on the Chicago Outfit and who had dispatched Chicago cops to kill Frank Nitti a couple months beforehand.
