The mayor takes his own medicine

As Mayor Daley proposed a scaled-back property tax hike of merely $86 million earlier this week, the second installment of this year's bills was finally making its way through the mail. If you're a home owner facing the hit, it may make you feel a little better to know that the mayor shares your pain.

Daley's looking at a second-installment tab of $7,099.18 on his town house on the near south side. That's $1,141.71 higher than the $5,957.47 he paid on his first-installment bill in March, an increase of more than 19 percent. Just in case you're bad at math, that means Mayor Daley will pay $13,056.65 in property taxes this year.

Wait till next. After Daley's latest proposal skated through the finance department Monday despite some aldermanic grousing, the City Council is almost certain to pass the revised budget next week. And most of us don't have the luxury of making six figures.

"And most of us don't have the luxury of making six figures." Which figures are you referring to? Those Daley reports on his 1040? What about those figures he doesn't report? Or pay income taxes on? Or even acknowledges he and his family receive? Or the benefits he receives that aren't direct income? Or the immense wealth in power and influence that dwarfs the paltry $13 grand he's gonna not even notice paying? Daley's tax 'burdens' are pocket change to him. Not so for the rest of us.

13 grand ain't even a gift in a single wedding envelope. Mayor Daley would not even lose a hair over 13 grand. Maybe his millionare friends from Bridgeport could help his tax situation, maybe than he will get it.

You are right, those taxes are chump change, and I got six bills in the mail today. So those of you that think you pay my salary, I pay a good part of my own via property taxes on six parcels of rental property. But the difference IS made up by you hardworking chumps that pay the rest. We thank you for your support.

He is firmly ensconced in his fantasy world. He has deluded himself into believing he is a big time player living the high life. In reality he is a troll who is lucky to have the same entry-level city job one of Beavers' precinct captains scored for him 15 yrs. ago. If he wasn't such a successful coffee-fetcher for his precinct captain he'd be on the street.

I'm no fan of our Governor, but he did just amenatorily veto SB1400, which extends a TIF in northwest Illinois, to require TIF disclosure info on property tax bills. You can read the veto message at www.ilga.gov. and then searching for the bill. For some reason, the full text of the veto is not posted yet. Here's a summary: Governor Amendatory Veto Message Recommends that the Property Tax Code be amended to require that tax bills set forth certain disclosures concerning tax increment finance districts that the county or taxing authority deems to be appropriate. Recommends the limitation of home rule powers concerning the disclosures.

orion says what others actually think and do, but don't say. like a mischievous child, orion must embarrass the two-faced adults surrounding him, just to feel like he's not impotent. and, like that mischievous child, he usually finds the tender spots and pokes them with abandon. well done, orion, go get yourself a cookie.

That may be the weirdest math take ever on a real estate tax bill -calculating the percentage increase from the first instalment to the second. The relevant take would be the increase from the previous year's bill - less than 10%.

The relevant 'take' would be that my property taxes have increased by 30% to 50% every 3 years, for the past 10+ years, thus being more than double today than they were 10 years ago. Tell me that this is NOT the result of: the gross abuse of TIF money, which, as we should all know by now, is our tax money (and would be spent on the things it is intended to be spent on, thus, avoiding the 'need' of any type of tax increases, IF it weren't skimmed off and used as a slush fund by the mayor and his cronies) the obscene waste and mismanagement which is rampant in city and county governments the criminal theft by fraud through the many corrupt deals and arrangements pervading our city and county governments the insane tolerance exhibited by the electorate for all of the above Say it ain't so, Joe!

Why did you remove Coconate's $444.000.00 plus lien post? Coconate can talk the talk but not walk the walk. Do not throw rocks if you live in a glass "broke ass" house. How can you owe more than a house is worth?

"How can you owe more than a house is worth?" Ask this question to the many now in foreclosure, most the result of the debacle known as 'sub-prime lending practices'.

county board it is so sad that the former president is a cripple old retarded man. It is sadder that out of sympathy and a willingness to keep a pedophilliac in the seat that they gave the seat to his son Todd Stroger. Oh I forgot that they had to have someone of the darker than brown persuasion to satisfy the slave type nigger requirements.
