In or out, Mr. Congressman?

Posted by Mick Dumke on Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 6:12 PM

Dear Congressman Jackson:

Your commentary in Wednesday’s Tribune, detailing some of the Daley administration’s taxpayer-funded corruption and waste, was a provocative and desperately needed counterpoint to the mayor’s claim that we need to swallow nearly $300 million in new taxes to “keep Chicago moving forward.”

It also ticked a lot of people off.

Frankly, my first reaction to the piece was relief. Finally, I thought, someone of prominence is stepping forward to try to challenge Mayor Daley on his management of city finances and resources.

Then I became frustrated, because I realized again that this challenge came a year too late.

I’ve since talked to quite a few people who were downright pissed and called you a few choice names, most of them questioning your testicular virility, as Gov. Blagojevich once put it. (They obviously haven’t seen the pictures of you practicing your various martial arts.)

In your Trib piece, you repeatedly referred to a period in 2006 when you were “exploring” a run for mayor. It's clear that much of the criticism you laid out in this piece is based on research and preliminary campaign work you and your team did when you were acting like a Daley opponent for a few months there. Though some of your claims—your numbers—appear to be exaggerated by a few million bucks here or there, your central point deserves serious examination: We need to seriously review, if not revolutionize, the way this city is run.

It’s just too bad you didn’t have enough commitment to this idea to step up and run your own campaign for mayor.

Look, don’t get too full of yourself: I’m not saying people see you as a savior. I’m not denying that lots of people can’t stand you simply because you have the name Jesse Jackson. I'm not saying you or anyone could get into position to beat Daley in an election.

But I do think that there’s a pretty good chance that if you stopped waffling and started to consistently show that you’re in this fight, you’d win a lot of respect and support. People might even decide they like you a little.

I’ve had the chance to talk with you one-on-one quite a few times now. At first I thought you were a blowhard and a really good actor, someone who’s just smart and experienced enough to know how to sweet-talk progressives.

I’m still not sure that isn’t true, but I’ve also seen the way you took the time to listen to the line of well-wishing nut cases, elderly women, hardened union guys, and people who claimed to have marched 30 years ago with your dad—all while you were trying to eat a little breakfast before speaking at a rally. I’ve seen how you can get a crowd energized—not just for the guy they already plan to vote for, but for the idea that they’re part of a movement for social change. And I’ve also seen how you can get people on board and then turn around and walk away.

Personally, as a reporter and a citizen, I don’t care if you’re just a skilled, shrewd politician. Some people are fans of Mayor Daley and his flower gardens, some aren’t, but what seems obvious is that for the city to continue to function, its policy decisions have to come about through serious, well-informed debate. While the City Council has more reform-minded members than it's had in years, aldermen are still primarily consumed with delivering services to their wards. The council will almost never position itself against the man they depend on to do that.

I’m not sure anyone but a skilled, shrewd, aggressive, and—to be blunt—extremely self-confident politician can face off with Daley and his political operation.

Shortly before you pulled the plug on your mayoral bid last fall, you asked me, in so many words, why you should make yourself a sacrificial lamb. If other progressives wouldn’t back you or even join you on a citywide ticket, you said there was no point in even trying. “I’ve got to have somebody with me!” you said in a near shout. “It’s the only way it can be done!”

Actually, it’s not the only way it can be done. Look, you have an important job already as a U.S. congressman. I for one wouldn’t fault you if, like most of our congressional delegation, you decided to keep your mouth shut about local politics and simply tried to get a few things done in Washington.

But you seem to feel called to weigh in on the ugly stuff that happens around here. I don’t see how that’s anything but good for the city—if you’re going to stand behind your occasional words. You didn’t run for mayor because your polling numbers weren’t promising? Well, maybe people want to see if you’re interested in doing more than talking. If you’re going to surface every six months or every year to blast the mayor, then disappear while others are left here to wage the fight, your poll numbers are going to keep going down. And they should.

If, on the other hand, you take the risk of alienating a few machine Democrats, if you consistently offer an alternative to the rule-by-decree approach of Mayor Daley, if you show people that you care about more than getting your name in the papers once in awhile, if you get into this to make the city better and not just see if you can run a sure-thing campaign—well, in that case, you might be able to accomplish something.

And your poll numbers might get better, too.

Thanks for your time,

Mick Dumke

At a recent 7th Ward community meeting Jr. told the crowd there to stop calling his wife for services, you are worrying her to death. Call 3-1-1. They also set up a table at the end of the meetings where they sign autographs. BTW, regarding her promise to enroll her kids in school here in Chicago, she has already broken that one. She still cannot identify where Crandon or Luella is in the ward she supposedly lives in. Fake hair, fake boobs, fake nose, fake nails, everything about her is fake.

Thank you, Mick, for this excellent example of why personality politics is doomed to be an effective means by which those corruption-oriented individuals will continue to dominate, control and manipulate the electorate. THIS is why every citizen should consider, understand and embrace the concept of using one's vote to deny reelection to incumbent, machine hacks, and to deny election to machine-backed machine hacks, whether Democrats or Republicans. The voting citizen, which SHOULD be EVERY CITIZEN of voting age, must temporarily reconsider the traditional voter perspective of voting FOR a given candidate, and realize that, to begin to clean our political/governmental houses, we must all focus on removing those currently holding our public offices hostage. The voters should be thinking that the incumbents must PROVE themselves worthy of being reelected, rather than thinking that challengers must prove themselves worthy of being elected. Get rid of the crooks you already KNOW are crooks, and worry about what the newly elected might do afterwards. Flush the political toilet and start with a fresh bowl. HAVE NO DOUBT, VOTE INCUMBENTS OUT

It's not much better than the royally arrogant Beavers family to replace them with the royally arrogant Jackson family. Where is Alderman Jackson demanding that there be some accountability for the police who have beat up defenseless bartenders, put bar patrons in the hospital, been convicted of probing a man's ass with a screw driver, used torture under Commander Burge to include the use of electrodes attached to peoples testicles...? Where are her ideas of cutting cost, or improving services to her constituents? Where are her ideas on tax alternatives or the documented TIF abuse? These people aren't going to speak truth to power. They are the power, and they provide cover for one another. I hate to admit it, but I am beginning to sign on with the idea of voting all these assholes out. Only then will we clean house of fuckups like Orion and the like who are feeding at the trough of public tax dollars and seem to have little to do other than blog all day (he is all over the tribune blogs as well). Congressman Jackson is no savior; he is only part of the problem with those in politics today. Born or married into the right family with no leadership or demonstrated shared sacrifice at a time when our nation needs selfless service and leadership the most. And no one dares to actually register to vote, run against these assholes, or even show up at the few public forums to express their outrage as they take more and more of our hard earned dollars to fund a failing educational system, public transit system, out of control police, bloated bureaucracy with patronage running rampant, failing health care system, handing over millions to private developers... We are all a bunch of suckers for allowing this to continue. Bring on the casino, there's an solution to all our problems...if you think the hired truck scandal was fun to follow, just wait till we let the mob run a publicly owned gambling facility.

Congressman jackson jr's time has come and gone. He was in a perfect situation to win, but his true colors came out. Not Black or white. He was yellow! The next candidate for Mayor in 2011 will not be Congressman Jackson jr. He is more out of touch than King Richie! After he wrote his letter to the Zell-Out Tribune, most people had the same reaction as you Mick. He's old news!

"I hate to admit it, but I am beginning to sign on with the idea of voting all these assholes out." No need to hate, my friend, just be firm in your understanding of the essentials. 1) Our elected public servants, and the works we elect them to do, are solely to SERVE THE PUBLIC GOOD. Period. Their jobs exist for no other purpose than that. We pay them to do nothing other than to serve our collective interests. That they have failed to do so is the essential reason for promoting the HAVE NO DOUBT, VOTE INCUMBENTS OUT strategy. 2) For elected public officials to ever actually serve the public that has entrusted them to do so, that has empowered them, authorized them and enabled them, said elected public servants much be held accountable for the results of their actions. Since these political machine enterprises have so thoroughly infested and corrupted our city, county and state governments, the obvious reaction that the electorate should have is, WITH FEW EXCEPTIONS, to FIRE THEM ALL. 3) The HAVE NO DOUBT, VOTE INCUMBENTS OUT strategy will accomplish this, with mathematical efficiency. 4) Furthermore, every citizen who has, heretofore, refrained from seeking public office should take this opportunity to do so now, as, should this strategy be applied by enough voters, especially in a primary election, a wealth of candidates, for any given office, will provide a real chance of ANYONE getting elected, without the need for the prohibitory amount of funding typically needed by a candidate for advertising, campaigning, etc. 5) To eliminate a hack incumbent from reaching the general election is the first step in removing the many incestuous individuals infesting our governments. 6) To enable the common citizen to compete with these 'professional' politicians, aka professional liars, manipulators, cheaters, thieves and rascals, is what each and every citizen/voter should be focusing on. 7) It is time for some 'tough love' to be visited on the heads of the many exploiters of the public's trust. No need to hate anything or anyone. Just love them out of office.

Face it you people - WE CONTROL THIS SHIT ! Yes, every now and then we let a "reformer" win one or two (just for the pleasure of subsequently co-opting them - Hi Helen Shiller), and every now and then we will serve up a useful idiot like Coconutty as an example or even a moderate higher up like Sorich, just to let the Feds and the papers get a little glory, but at the end of the day, WE ARE IN CONTROL. Frank tried shaking down JJJr. for money, Jackson dropped his ass like a bad habit, and Coconate back-stabbed him. (Illegally taping a conversation) The ties have been reestablished and Coconate was kicked to the curb. JJJr. is back in the game, but smarter and more cautious. Coconate lost this round again, just like his job.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I won't be fooled again. I know that I have nothing to be ashamed of. I have put my life on the line to defend our democratic system, only to have those in power cowardly hide behind a technicality to prevent empowering the taxpayers from having a say in who represents them. You're still a cowardly dick feeding at the trough of taxpayers, and I will always have the last laugh because I don't depend on a patron protecting my job and will always live better than you, beside the fact I live up to and will fight for the principles I hold dear, which is much more than most of our current elected representatives can say. I don't fear a debate or competition from any political opponent because I know (and I think the cowards currently controlling the machine do as well) that if given the choice between a decorated soldier who has given years of selfless service and always spoken truth to power, and what ever political hack you put me up against, the majority of voters would choose me any day of the week and twice on Sunday. You keep thinking you prevent me or any other honest citizen from reclaiming our governments. It’s nice to live in denial. Have a good day dick.

I listened to that tape recorded conversation that Frank Coconate has of Jesse Jackson Jr. Jackson Jr is swearing, making racist statements, admitting he lied and backstabbed people and generally acting like a loud mouthed spoiled brat racist foul mouthed little politician. He uses racist statements against Italian Americans. If the reverse was true and Senator DeLeo called someone a n-word or an eggplant the papers would be all over it. Imus was kicked off radio for less. Yet there is a double standard for Jackson or his racist words haven't really hit the media yet. Words can come back and haunt later. Jackson Sr had his hymietown momement. Jackson Jr will have a hard time winning outside his district alienating Catholic and ethnic voters especially but not limited to Italians. (Jackson is also caught on tape talking about Catholics, Bishops, Police, State's Attorneys and Child abuse)

My problems with Jackson Jr started when he would not support Frank Avila Jr for MWRD, even after Frank Jr gave him $25,000.00 for the "picture" with jackson Jr, and Jr's stupid poll. To Insider, I dropped Jackson because he made a deal with John Daley not run to run for Mayor in 2007. The Deal with the Daley's was brokered by Jackson's Father. Soon you will see what was dealt... Mark my words insider, Jackson Jr's window of opportunity is closed when it comes for him as the next Mayor of Chicago. For the record . At that Harry Cary meeting he: called whites"lemon heads" ,Italians " scoon-geelie heads", and the AA leadership ripe for pickin. He told me to back off Daley for now, unless you never want to work in this town. So insider, thats the real story. If you want more on Jackson jr, someone should ask Phil hays of CBS2, about the meeting at Volare Restuarant.

The problem is people get the representation they deserve. I bet 2 years from now the average voter or non-voter will forget about the scumbag political leaders. The Machine will always get its people to the polls. This is why the Machine loves low voter turnouts. People with a vested interest will always come out to support their interest. The average person in Chicago is detached, and could care less about corruption. Only when corruption threathens their comfort zone will they react. The 800000 voters who refused to partcipate in the last Mayoral election, are to blame, and should suffer, indirectly they voted for DALEY.

In the interest in full disclosure, the reason why Thapedi lost was not due to Junior, but his own past as described below (so stop putting out that misinformation and learn how to spell his name while you are at it): - from the Chicago Lawyer http://www.law.northwestern.edu/news/article_full.cfm?eventid=2460 Andre' M. Thapedi Andre' M. Thapedi, 37, is running in the 5th subcircuit to fill the seat formerly held by his mother, retired circuit judge Llwellyn L. Greene-Thapedi. He will square off against Diane M. Shelley and Stephen Stern, both Democrats. Thapedi, an honors graduate of The John Marshall Law School who was admitted to the bar in 1996, is employed at Thapedi Properties LLC, where he concentrates in land use and development law, according to Sullivan's Law Directory. In 1999, he was charged with misdemeanor battery. A further check of criminal records indicated that between 1988 and 1995, Thapedi was arrested four times and charged with five misdemeanors ranging from disorderly conduct to criminal trespass. All of the charges were dropped, and Thapedi was never convicted of any of the charges filed against him, according to court records. "Any person has the right to accuse another of any kind of transgression," Thapedi told Chicago Lawyer in a written statement. "No one is immune from that risk." He went on to say that all complaints against him were immediately dropped "because there were no transgressions on my part." In 1999, the most recent incident, a man filed a battery charge against Thapedi alleging that he "made physical contact of a provoking nature" by "forcefully bumping his chest" into the other man's chest, according to court records. The incident was reported to have taken place in the 6900 block of South Oglesby, according to the complaint. In April 1995, Thapedi was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to land after police said he forced open the revolving front doors at John Marshall and broke the securing latches, according to the arrest report. Police records showed that Thapedi was arrested at 11:20 p.m. in the 6th floor Computer Information Law Office of the law school. Thapedi was a contributor to the Journal of Computer & Information Law. Above his signature on the $1,000 recognizance bond posted at 4:30 a.m. the next morning, Thapedi wrote, "I reserve the right to have a full hearing re: police action." Maintenance staff had been told that students were not allowed in the building after hours, but the law school dropped the charges against Thapedi once the facts of the situation became clear, according to Marilyn Thomas, a spokeswoman for the law school. Linda R. Crane, an associate dean at John Marshall who was Thapedi's faculty advisor, contacted Chicago Lawyer to "vouch for [Thapedi's] character." She described him as a "superstar student" who kept a hectic pace of academics and extracurricular activities, including competing in two national moot court competitions simultaneously, one of which he won, she said. Thapedi also served as president of the Black Law Students Association. On June 27, 1993, police arrested Thapedi and charged him with disorderly conduct for allegedly becoming "loud and abusive" after police told him to remove a tent he had erected at the Taste of Chicago near South Columbus Drive, according to the arrest report. The report stated that Thapedi "shouted obscenities causing a crowd to gather." On May 26, 1990, police arrested him for bringing a bottle of Miller beer onto park district property. Thapedi and three other men were reportedly sitting in a car "using loud and abusive language," the arrest report stated. On June 9, 1988, police arrested Thapedi and charged him with disorderly conduct. According to the arrest report, Thapedi was riding in the back of the car with his legs hanging out the open hatch. Police pulled the car over and told the driver to close the back hatch, which he did, according to the records. Police then alleged that Thapedi got out of the car and started yelling that he hated "mother [expletive] police" and refused to stop when told to do so. In February, Thapedi said his attitude toward police is that "a complex society such as ours requires a police force to fairly keep the peace" and that "there is no place in our society for rogue police." Burns said arrest reports only tell one side of the story. "An arrest is just an accusation, and an accusation just brought by police officers. And an arrest report is just something an officer wrote down to support his accusations. So there's a big question of fact there as to what actually took place," he said....

Honest folks are routinely kicked off the ballot as documented in Ben's reporting earlier this year. As for Mr. Lawrence, he followed orders all the time in the military with great success, from my understanding, since he is a decorated veteran. I think it is a matter of opinion on the miscarriage of justice and if the no submittal of a receipt is justification for throwing someone off the ballot. That seems to me a miscarriage. As far as the bar exam I don't think passage of it is any indication of the abilities of someone be an effective legislator or even in an executive branch post. If you are a public employee, how is it that you have so much time to post on these blogs? Maybe the Reader should out you're identity and we could save the taxpayer some money by getting off the payroll and allowing to spew you're defense of raping the taxpayer fulltime. The thing about Congressman Jackson is that I agree with Mick that this is a dollar short and a day late. I don't really care about the rest of this other than the people of Chicago continually looking for yet another one of the blessed few born into political families being looked too in order to save us. They are not going to do it, they are the problem. As others have pointed out, where’s the outrage at Stroger's budget from the Jackson’s?

"Honest folks are routinely kicked off the ballot as documented in Ben's reporting earlier this year." True. ".....if the no submittal of a receipt is justification for throwing someone off the ballot. That seems to me a miscarriage." To me, also. "If you (Orion) are a public employee, how is it that you have so much time to post on these blogs? Maybe the Reader should out your identity and we could save the taxpayer some money by getting (you, Orion) off the payroll and allowing (you, Orion) to spew your defense of raping the taxpayer full-time." Excellent idea. Anyone at the Reader, or out in the real world, know Orion's true identity? I've noticed that Chris Kosicki and the anonymous '11th man' have been absent on this blog for some time. Maybe they've got a few brain cells that work and have realized how helpful their posting of bullshit is, to all of us citizens seeking to reveal the dishonest actions and attitudes of the clout monkey army's members. ".....the people of Chicago continually looking for yet another one of the blessed few born into political families being looked to in order to save us. They are not going to do it, they are the problem." Exactly. "....where’s the outrage at Stroger's budget, from the Jackson’s?" Good question.

The Mayor Hits Another Home Run ! Boxing official praises Chicago's work for tournament By Greg Hinz Oct. 22, 2007 (Crain’s) — So far, so good. That’s the word from the head of the International Amateur Boxing Assn. as the first bout nears in a world boxing championship whose outcome is considered crucial to Chicago’s chances of winning the 2016 Summer Olympics. In remarks to reporters after a Monday-morning meeting of the AIBA’s governing council, Ching-Kuo Wu had only praise for the work the Windy City has done to host the boxing championships, which were abruptly shifted here several months ago after organizing difficulties in Moscow. “So far, we’re very happy,” said Mr. Wu, who also is on the International Olympic Committee, giving him a vote in the final decision on which city gets the games. Local hotels, transportation and sporting facilities “are all of the very highest standards. I’m looking forward for the competition to begin tomorrow,” he added. Mr. Wu, an architect from Taipei, Taiwan, even had good words for often criticized U.S. immigration officials, saying they had made extra efforts to get athletes, officials and coaches into the country with a minimum of fuss. “This kind of assistance and help was tremendously appreciated,” he said. Chicago has not hosted an international sporting event of this caliber since the Pan-American games several decades ago. Both city and Olympics officials say how well the event goes will impact Chicago’s prospects of winning the 2016 games. Mr. Wu didn’t say it, but the Chicago competition also is a test for the AIBA, which faces a loss of its Olympics status after a series of scandals over judging and financial matters. All bouts will be held at the UIC Pavilion. Tickets are $10 to $25.

Madrid just completed hosting a tier I Master level tennis tournament this week (it does so every year). Tokyo regularly host international sporting competitions’ and their is no doubt they could host a successful Olympics (But with London and Beijing hosting the 2012 and 2008 Olympics respectively some wonder if the IOC wants them in Europe and Asia yet again). That leaves Rio - and how ever you cut it, Chicago is coming up short compared with all three and is well behind Rio as the odds on favorite. I wonder if they think they can hide all the stalled buses everyday of the year (the IOC doesn't just judge a city on its success of one event). Chicago isn't going to get past the first round. It doesn't matter how diplomatic a few IOC members are toward the local press.

Tom Dart is being groomed to replace Daley. He is young enough, yuppie enough, educated enough, and scandal free enough to be appealing to the Yuppies and new white rich urban core and lakefront that Daley has built to throw Blacks out. Tom Dart is superficially clean enough but also knows how the game is played and can be trusted coming out of the 19th ward, being close to the Daley clan going back to his father the lobbyist William Dart. Old Man Dart was close to old Man Daley. Dart was RMD campaign manager. While Madigan didn't want Dart for Sherrif--John Daley pushed him hard. Tom Dart will be the next Mayor. Appealable to Yuppies and non political whites who read the papers But can be trusted to keep the status qou and certain Irish families continue to be rich The only problem is seen in the arrogance of Dick Mell putting his idiot daughter in as State rep, or the absurdity at least originally of having Lisa Madigan as Attorney General or Dan Hynes as Comptroller or Danny Lipinksi as Congressman----- Rich Daley may try to put his problematic son Patrick Daley in as Mayor--that is not the plan now--but the arrogance of the Daley clan (arrogance that is justified by success and power) Patrick Daley may be pushed to be the next Mayor Daley has sufficiently pushed the Black population into the suburbs and dismantled Public housing to have a Black Mayor. Daley would reveal all the dirt on Jackson and Jackson has a glass jaw and could not survive. The growing White population would never have a Jackson Jr as Mayor and Jackson Jr has no history with the Latino Community. Even with the debacle of the criminal HDO entity and the absurdity of clowns like Al Sanchez being in charge of Departments or the overt arrogance and corruption of lobbyist Victor Reyes---Mayor Daley is still very popular with Hispanics and no Black since Harold Washington has had real outreach to the Latino Community--Jackson has been Congressman for over 10 years and has not history with Latinos The Black population is growing smaller in Chicago every day and the lakefront and Taylor Street public housing is now something for history books Daley pushed off the dysfunctional low income housing project people on Thorton Township, Maywood, Bellwood, even Lake County, Robbins, Harvey, Markham Chicago is wealthier and whiter due to Mayor Daley and the Blacks or so stupid, don't care or bought off that they don't even criticize the obvious Probably Tom Dart if the arrogance and blood relationship or Maggie asks Patrick Daley If you can't beat them join them It is an oligarchy It is a mafia It is primarily South Side Irish It is what it is

It's a rare, but welcome, occurrence, to see some raw truths expressed so clearly. Truths about human nature at it's most basic levels. 'The carrot or the stick' strategy is alive and well, being used on the many jackasses that tell themselves they are human beings. The ideals of democracy, authentically appreciated by so few over the entire history of our country, enthusiastically exploited and corrupted by so many, are fast fading into but a dim and fuzzy memory. The 'Big Lie' appears to also be alive and well, as an effective technique, used no only by the many so-called 'communist' or 'socialist' dictatorships being touted in many countries, but also so very effectively here, in our own back yards, city, county, state and country. All depending upon the people-at-large's cooperation. Cooperation in believing the lies, agreeing with the false logics that flow from said lies, embracing the many petty prejudices, animosities and jealousies used so efficiently, to 'divide and conquer'. Darwin got it backwards, regarding the human species of animal. We're devolving, not evolving, all self-delusional beliefs to the contrary. Now, if only human beings weren't so good at lying to themselves......

Pat Daley is not interested, nor will he ever be in running for Mayor. He isn't being groomed for anything. And to those that say he has a troubled past, to what do you base those accusations? Him throwing a party in Grand Beach, MI in the Spring of 1992? Yes, he was 17. He made a poor decision. But how many 17 year olds have parties when their parents aren't around? He wasn't the one who swung the bat. He wasn't even involved in the fight. He's clean as a whistle. He's also got a Masters in Business from the U of C. Certainly, he's no dummy. And if he were to want to be Mayor someday, I'm sure there's an easier way to go about it than jumping from planes in war zones. Just something for you morons to think about. As for Dart, I'd say he'd be perfect for the job of Mayor. He is clean, he's a good guy, and he's not in it for himself. But watch what demands are made, and the vacuum that is created when Daley either announces he is not running or he drops dead. The blacks and Hispanics will demand that the Mayoral throne is theirs. Then again, that vacuum created might just open the door a creak for a white person to step up.

Since you brought it up: We don't know who was swinging the bat. Pat Daley went to schools in California, Arizona, besides the Military Academy West Point where he didn't pass the muster. Pat Daley has got in trouble, has had trouble with temper, violence and other issues that always got brushed under the rug. Pat Daley did not get into U of C because of good grades (he was at St. Ignatius and basically tossed out for High School, and he was tossed out of the Military Academy West Point) He had jobs he got through daddy's connections at Bear Stearns investment banking house (before U of C with a degree I think finally from California and not great grades at at least 2 High Schools and at least 3 colleges) and working for Blair Hull, Blair Hull got the job for Patrick Daley because of his political ambitions not his mathematical skills. If Pat Daley is so bright why would he go from U of C MBA (which he did not get in because of grades, GMAT or GRE) and than go in as a private in the Army (when he could be an officer and help more people) If being a private 82nd Airborne jumping out of planes is such a sacrifice (his airborne instructor told him to lose weight and he was not the oldest person there--there was a Papa Smurf in his airborne class) THAN WHY IS HE NOT IN IRAQ LIKE ALL THE OTHER 82ND???? WHY IS HE "LEARNING LANGUAGES" AT FORT BRAGG (and not Monterrey?)?? If Pat Daley is such a great soldier and making such a great sacrifice than why is he not an officer and/or in combat?? The preferential treatment given to Pat Daley (his injury doing sports so he is not jumping out of planes) and that he is not in combat is a joke at Fort Bragg and among real airborne. Tom Dart is a nice guy. He probably will be the next mayor. He is not in it just to do the right thing. He is a political animal but without the edge. He is doing a mediocre to bad job as Sheriff, the morale is low and there are lots of problems. I think the point was, and I agree, that the Daley clan is so arrogant that they may push Patrick Daley (who has not kept his nose clean but been covered up with his temper and violence) just as the unqualified Dan Hynes and Lisa Madigan were shoved down throats (even if they both did good jobs later as did RFK as AG) Tom Dart will probably be the Mayor when Daley goes. He is clean enough for the papers. White yuppie enough for the yuppies. The establishment trusts him enough because of his dad and family ties to Daley and the machine. Daley is pushing the blacks out of Chicago so fast that Jesse Jackson Jr wil never be able to run for Mayor and has limited cross over appeal. There is no serious Hispanic candidate as of now.

Quite an impressive list of allegations against Pat Daley, Mike. Did he go to school in California and Arizona?? Are you sure about that? Because he graduated from U of I. You forgot to mention that one on your list. Sure, he left St. Ignatius and ended up at Mt. Carmel, but was he thrown out? Can you be sure of that? And you seem to know so much about everything, why don't you know who swung the bat? I know who it was, just as a lot of other people who were actually there do. Interesting comments about Lisa Madigan and Dan Hynes. I mean, Jesse Jr. wasn't shoved down anyone's throats, was he? And Dart, I mean, morale is low and, what is the cause? Is it because the Sheriff's po-po can't do their jobs for fear of being lumped in with the Chicago Police, who also can't do their job because of every person who gets pulled over by the police feel as though they can sue the city for harassment? By the way, what are all of Pat's injuries? I'm curious. I mean, you have no problem going after Pat for being such a lousy person on an anonymous blog with fictitious information from your boys at Bragg. I bet Darth Daley made him enlist, just so he could push him into power like Kim Jung's father.

Throwing Darts, Pat Daley did go to 3 other colleges besides West Point. I think the point is that most people that go to 4 colleges to get their undergraduate degree usually don't get into the best grad or law schools. You may who swung the bat but I know how Pat Daley got into U of C and it was not because of grades, GRE or GMAT. I challenge you to put Patrick Daley's grades and test scores compared to other applicants and other students at U of C. He may not have been technically kicked out of West Point or St. Ignatius but it is fair to say by talking to West Pointers and Iggy's grads that he was not invited to stay. If you know who swung the bat that put a Filipino kid into a coma you should of gone to the police. Maybe someone should trace your IP address and get you for conspiracy because of your post. Did you cover it up? Obstruction of justice? You should feel ashamed if you let another human being almost die and be in a coma and no justice--Frankie Caruso wishes he had a good deal like Patrick Daley. Was anyone charged with attempted murder in Michigan? I guess not all Bridgeporters swing baseball bats equally. You are right that the Fort Bragg people don't respect Pat Daley much. Either did most of his so called friends that thought he was lack of talent and spoiled. Jesse Jackson Jr may not be anything special but he did earn his election, he ran against Daley and the machine when they supported Emil Jones for Congress. Most cops are good, and it is a hard job--but the reason Sheriff's morale is low is not because they are lumped in with Chicago cops who did bad. Finnegan had contract hits to kill 4 other cops. The Burge stuff is still ongoing. Too many cops do bad stuff and they are protected and people don't like it. Daley acts like an idiot on it. How did Pat Daley get jobs at Bear Stearns and with Blair Hull? Are you saying that Pat Daley didn't have a rep in out of state colleges and in the nightclub scene for temper and violence? Why don't you post Patrick Daley's grades from St. Ignatius and West Point? Why isn't Patrick Daley in Iraq (or Afghanistan) like almost every other 82nd Airborne?????? You are right that Daley is like Kim Jung.

This post brings back memories: "To be a Daley Gangsta: Do you remember the one kid in the hood, that would tease the dog that was chained up. The dog would come running to bite him , but the slack in the chain would tighten and choke the dog. The kid would walk away laughing. That kid was Richie Daley/Jackson Jr and Oreo." Yes, fond memories indeed, to wit: I once knew a kid like that, he wound up finding out what would happen if that dog got loose from his chain, because that dog did get loose, chased the source of his aggravation down the alley, caught the little shithead before he could scramble over a fence, clamped his angry jaws onto that kid's ass, dragged him down to the ground, chewed the shit out of that kid's ass and extremities, that smart-assed little punk screaming like the bitch he was, and only stopped when I finally felt pity on the poor fool and got the dog to chase me. I led the now tired out pooch back to his yard, closed the gate and went on my merry way, content in the knowledge that, contrary to my previous beliefs, there IS a God. :) That punk NEVER walked down that alley again. Yep, your post sure brought back some sweet memories. Thanks, buddy.

'We' didn't 'elect' Toddler. 'They' perpetrated an effective fraud, first lying to the public, about the health and fitness-to-serve of the Toddler's daddy, (though one wonders why the few potential challengers for the office of county board president chose to not act to prevent such an obvious fraud from being effective), then cut numerous back-room deals, (for the support of all the usual suspects), then played the race card ad nauseum, then counted on the many non-voters to do what they do, namely, not vote, and, finally, mustered their army of loyal gang-bangers, hooligans, miscreants and rascals to 'get out the vote'. It is worth noting that the 'black' citizens of this city and county have apparently embraced the old-school philosophy of 'where's mine', assisted by the cooperation of the 'white' dominated political machine, both groups depending upon the continued, and consistent, lack of action on the part of those many citizens who foot the bill. It is also worth noting that, apparently, our fellow citizens need an incredibly egregious economic dick-up-their asses, before they even begin to notice, or care about, the multitude of undemocratic activities engaged in by those who 'rule' over them. Has that economic 'dick-up-their-asses' become so painful, so egregious, so unbearably unpleasant, as to be enough to motivate those who don't bother to vote, or don't even bother to register to vote, to finally take the simple and effective actions to force the withdrawal of said 'economic-dick-up-their-asses'? October 30, 2007 at 11:02:42 Obama Be Bold: Break with Backer on Torture by laura flanders Page 1 of 1 page(s) http://www.opednews.com Senator Obama told the New York Times this week that he wants to stand out on the campaign trail. How about standing up against torturers and those who cover up for them, not just in Gitmo -- but in his hometown of Chicago? Former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge and officers serving under him stand accused of torturing some 200 mostly African-American men in custody in the '70s and '80s. In 2002, after a criminal investigation, four who had been sentenced to death and spent over a total of 70 years behind bars on false confessions extracted through torture were pardoned, Governor Ryan issued a moratorium on executions and a package of reforms was passed. Running for US Senate, Obama was rightly proud of SB15, his piece of that reform package, which required the videotaping of interrogations. When asked by an interviewer in 2004 why African Americans in particular should support his campaign, Obama pointed to his "track record of effectively working on behalf of the issues that they care about... I come out of a legislative session where I sent twenty-five pieces of legislation to the Governor's desk, including landmark videotaping legislation of interrogations and confessions, the first in the nation.” The Senator's work in the area of detainees rights and policing is a piece of his record he'd like the media to consider when they're accusing him of lack of expertise, but there's plenty more to be done. By the time SB 15 passed, the electric-shocks to-the-genitals, bags-over-head treatment had stopped, but justice has never been served. To this day, Burge (who was finally fired in 1992) is drawing a pension in Florida. He and the others have never been prosecuted. In 2006, a four-year, investigation costing Chicago tax-payers $17 million confirmed the allegations but declared it too late to act. Now Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley stands accused of running out the clock on the statute of limitations. Daley – who abandoned his tradition of neutrality to back Obama in this year's Democratic primary -- has been involved in this story from the start. In 1982, he was Cook County's top prosecutor (the presiding state's attorney) when evidence linking Burge to torture was first brought to him by the superintendent of police. For eight years thereafter, he collaborated in prosecutions of Burge's victims -- and took credit for a high conviction rate -- without taking action to investigate. Now Daley is Mayor, his former assistant, Richard Devine, is Cook County state's attorney, and his brother, Bill Daley, is a senior adviser to Senator Obama. Chicago justice-seekers have never given up. Not long ago, they testified in Geneva before the UN Committee against Torture. The Committee demanded action and the global scrutiny could count conceivable count against Chicago's 2016 Olympic bid. Independent prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald announced a federal investigation this September, not only to examine the torture, but also to review what looks a whole lot like a conspiracy to cover up (on which the statue of limitations wouldn't apply.) Most recently, on October 17, local Congressman, Bobby Rush (D-Il) wrote to committee chairman John Conyers (D-Il) requesting a Judiciary Committee hearing in the House. I was just in Chicago, where this is the issue among would-be Obama supporters is ho. “[Obama’s] been very silent on this issue here. We haven’t really pressed him on it because he’s been involved in what he’s been involved in. We also realize he’s playing the politics of it all and Daley is a major, major actor in all of this. And he has to keep his fences mended,” said Flint Taylor of the People’s Law Office who has represented victims of torture in Chicago for the last twenty years. But if Obama wants to show courage, confronting one of his own hometown cronies could do it. Obama knows this issue and he knows what's right. A Senate investigation anyone? Next: tackle homophobia. www.lauraflanders.com Laura Flanders is the host of RadioNation on Air America Radio and the author, most recently, of BLUE GRIT: True Democrats Take Back Politics from the Politicians. Barack’s Betrayal Tuesday, February 13th, 2007 Barack Obama, displaying his peerless skills as a courtier in Rich Daley’s racist court, endorsed the Mayor in his bid against a qualified, competent, and honest opponent: Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown. “I had made a determination well before the exploration of my presidential candidacy that this was the right thing to do. I am a Chicagoan. I care about the city. This is where I live. This is where my wife works. This is where my kids go to school, and I want to continue to see the city make the progress it has made.” By turning his back, he shows his true colors to anybody intelligent enough to see the import of this endorsement for what it is: a betrayal of justice and a betrayal of the black community. The politically astute could see this coming because the Mayor’s brotha Bill Daley, a former Clinton Commerce Secretary, was added to the Obama campaign payroll in an “advisory” capacity. Obama really believes what the pundits breathlessly write about him and was duty bound to return the corrupt favor to the Daley regime. Some of you might say, “It’s just politics,” or “He has to cut deals to get to the next level.” To that, I would ask, who does he step on to elevate himself to the Presidency? And by what right does he spend political capital to endorse Rich Daley and spit in the face of the black community? These questions are best answered by examining the political culture of Chicago and by revealing in explicit detail the victims of Daley’s regime and Obama’s ambition. CHICAGO’S POLITICAL CULTURE OF WHITE SUPREMACY & CORRUPTION During Harold Washington’s historic campaign for Mayor of Chicago in 1983, he was introduced at an event by a preacher as, “an amalgamation of all the good qualities of past mayors. There were no good qualities to be had, Washington said upon taking the podium, Daley included: “He was a racist to the core, head to toe, hip to hip, there’s no ding or doubt about it. He eschewed and fought and oppressed black people to the point that some thought that was the way they were supposed to live, just like some slaves on the plantation thought that that was the way they were supposed to live. I give no hosannas to a racist, nor did I appreciate or respect his son. If his name were anything other than Daley, his campaign would be a joke.” The general election campaign against Harold Washington in 1983 was hands down the most racist in Chicago history. Cook County Democratic Party Chairman Ed Vrdolyak succinctly put the naked hostility and public revulsion expressed by the white community at the prospect of having a black mayor by saying, “It’s a racial thing. Don’t kid yourself. I’m calling on you to save your city, to save your precinct. We’re fighting to keep the city the way it is.” (Controlled by white ethnics) Washington defeated Incumbent Mayor Jane Byrne andCook County State’s Attorney Richard M. Daley, son of the legendary mayor in the Democratic primary. After the primary, neither lifted a finger for Harold Washington. Their white supporters and the Democratic machine outside of black precincts defected en masse to the Republican challenger, Bernard Epton. From Gary Rivlin’s book “Fire on the Prairie,” “Whites attending Epton rallies startled reporters with their frank comments about not wanting a nigger mayor. They held up signs calling Washington a “crook” and took to wearing a variety of political buttons decidedly racial in appeal: one showed a watermelon with a black slash through it, another was simply all white. VOTE WHITE, VOTE RIGHT one popular T-shirt boldly proclaimed.”…They passed out literature saying, “You will be robbed or killed. White women will be raped. With a black police chief there will be absolute chaos in the city.” Washington’s first three years as Mayor were marked by a bitter and protracted battle with a white cabal of Alderman for political primacy.Stung by their loss of access to the power of the Mayor’s office and the political patronage that serves as the lifeblood of a ward heeler, they reacted like spoiled children and became obstructionists hell bent on crippling Washington’s authority. They hurled racist insults and taunts dripping with homophobic invective toward the Mayor. Moreover, they conspired with a compliant media in a racially motivated PR campaign to stoke white fears in an effort to stymie Administration initiatives. The swirling cauldron of white racial animosity towards the black community shaped the politics of Chicago then and still shapes it today. Two years ago, the Daley machine that seized power after the death of Harold Washington wouldn’t give Barack Obama the time of day during his run for the Senate. In keeping with the tenants of racial preferences and political nepotism for their own, they endorsed Dan Hynes, the son of Tom Hynes, an acolyte of the Daleys and pinstripe bigot who challenged Mayor Washington’s re-election by running against him as an independent. Now, when Obama’s star shines brightly enough to put the lights out on Daley’s re-election as Mayor, they endorse him for President. How convenient. CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT: KLANSMEN IN UNIFORM July of last year saw the release of a whitewash report by Special Prosecutor Edward Egan, which was the culmination of four years of investigation and $7 million in taxpayer funds. The report acknowledges, according to a new standard news report, “clear proof that torture took place at Area Two, a 60 square mile police district on the city’s south side,” during the 70’s and 80’s. Kari Lydersen, a staff writer for New Standard News wrote, “Significantly the report lacked any mention of the racial component which some critics saw as the most important facet of the case. Almost all of the 60-plus men who claimed to have been tortured by [Jon]Burge and other officers are black; the officers were all white. Alleged widespread racism on the part of officers was just part of an overall racist justice system; in the 1970s Chicago prosecutors were known to compete in a game called “niggers by the pound” to see who could convict the most black defendants. From the website of the University of Chicago’s Police Torture Archive: Between the years of 1972 and 1991, approximately [192] African American Men and women were arrested and tortured at the hands of former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge and officers under his command at Area 2 police headquarters. Some of these victims were as young as thirteen years old. Various court cases have established that the methods of torture used in the interrogation of suspects included electric shock to the ears and genitalia, mock executions, suffocation, and burning. While Jon Burge was ultimately fired by the Chicago Police Department, not a single perpetrator of the tortures has ever been criminally prosecuted. Ten of those tortured were sent to death row. According to the Chicago Reader, “More than 50 men alleged that they were tortured by Burge and his detectives during Daley’s term asCook County state’s attorney, from 1981 to 1989. He was put on notice several times, most dramatically in the case of Andrew Wilson. Photographs of Wilson’s stitches, burns, and alligator- clip wounds made compelling evidence in court, underlined by [DA]Hyman’s failure to ask if Wilson had given his statement voluntarily. Received copy of letter from Dr. John Raba, who as medical director of Cermak Hospital examined Wilson’s injuries, urging police superintendent Richard Brzeczek to investigate. Brzeczek told Daley he had promised to investigate all cases of police brutality but did not want to jeopardize Wilson’s prosecution and asked for guidance. Daley sent no reply.” Daley’s tenure as prosecutor is stained by his craven capitulation to an electorate and a power structure in thrall to an ideology of white supremacist hate. Prosecuting police officers for their sadistic torturing of black criminal suspects, and their prosecutor enablers on his staff would have permanently put an end to his political support in the white ethnic wards of Chicago that still had fond memories of the brutal repression of anti-Vietnam political dissent at the 1968 Democratic National Convention ordered by Daddy Daley. Ultimately, Daley’s power rests on a foundation of deliberate indifference. I don’t care how many handkerchief head Nigras Daley surrounds himself with. I don’t care how many Negroes people his Administration. I don’t care how many Negroes show up to his re-election press conference to create an illusion of inclusion. I don’t care that Michelle Obama worked for Daley and treated her well. What he has done cannot and will never atone for this. Dorothy Brown finally realized that and has asked U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald to investigateand prosecute the Klansmen in uniform responsible for these crimes. On the Senate floor, Barack Obama opposed the Military Commissions Act because it gave short shrift to the rights of foreign terror suspects. He said, “…the fundamental human rights of the accused, should be bigger than politics. This is serious and this is somber…” If he really meant that, he would be defending those same rights here at home, not endorsing a man who repeatedly turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the screams of scores of black men tortured by those sworn to protect and serve white supremacy in a south side Abu Ghraib. From important quarters in the black community, we’ve heard a cacophony of uncritical praise. Jesse Jackson and the black press are simply delusional, and the black Chicago political establishment has clearly been corrupted. Nothing else explains their cavalier attitude regarding Obama turning his back on Dorothy Brown, black victims of torture, the black community, and quite frankly, himself. Debra Dickerson claims that Barack Obama’s heritage is not African American. Born the child of a Kenyan and a white woman, he lacks the cultural legacy of a descendant of slaves. Moreover, she believes that because his upbringing was managed by white relatives that we have nothing in common. It is my contention that the sistah is mistaken. Barack Obama is an indentured servant to the Daley machine and a slave to his own ambition. In the new millennium, becoming a willing tool and psychological servant to a corrupt white power structure is very African American. I expect better from a former community organizer, constitutional law professor, and civil rights attorney than the politics of expediency.
