The Reader has made its footage from CTA security cameras showing Officer Alvin Weems shooting an unarmed man at point-blank range -- the subject of this week's cover story by John Conroy -- available on YouTube.
Conroy, author of the Reader's long-running series on police torture and the book Unspeakable Acts, Ordinary People: The Dynamics of Torture, appeared on WBEZ's 848 this morning to discuss the incident.

This is how CDP treat people,4 real and it took them so long to respond if he's cop he could have call the EMT or his conrads.
lets see here; a large fight going on, a cop by himself with no backup, 30-40 people in the station and no one helps the cop. hmmmmmmm. you are a hypocrite. you see only that the officer was late and that he was armed. he is doing what no one else was doing....attempting to stop a large fight by himself
bill, its people liek you that should never be in legal power. the officer broke procedure and drew his weapon improperly. CPD is not supposed to draw a weapon on an unarmed suspect. even in the threat of battery. unless the person is ARMED, police cannot be armed.
Hey White Establishment: You kill us now and we will kill you later. It is only a matter of time, before the tables are spun. You do not believe me, huh? Take a good look at the aftermath in Lousiana. Pigs were blowing their own brains out, pulling off their glorious pig uniforms, and the Brothers were going after them in dingys. The aftermath, full reverse, 2nd. World War, and the Police, Pigs,Gestapos dropping their uniforms, heading, for Spain, Brazil, Argentina, and the mother of all Evils. The U.S.A.
The fact that Weems was promoted to Detective sometime afterwards, suggests that the Police failed to Protect and Serve their community.
To Protect and Serve, means establishing Justice and the Rule of Law.
Weem's failure to follow proper procedure and as a result cost the life of a young innocent bystander then lying about it (and his commanders lying for him after viewing the tape), demonstrates a clear violation of that oath.
Such a sad story that apparently has not been resolved adequately. The people in that community need to speak up and demand justice.
