The last time I saw Jim Ginderske, he was accompanied by a campaign manager dressed up like a duck. Or maybe it was a goose--he was wearing some sort of bird suit.
It was December 11, and Ginderske and dozens of other aldermanic candidates were lining up in the basement of the County Building to file their petitions for the February 27 municipal elections. Ginderske's pal was parading around in a bird suit to mock Moore for devoting time and energy on the foie gras ban. "We had a lot of fun with that stunt," Ginderske says.
That was then and this is now. Having finished third in a four-way race for alderman, Ginderske's just accepted an appointment to Moore's 49th Ward advisory zoning committee. Does this mean he's endorsing Moore over community activist Don Gordon in the April 17 runoff?
Not exactly. "I think Joe Moore's going to win," says Ginderske. "I believe we can either be an angry voice in the wilderness or we can stay involved. I want to stay involved in the community."
Ginderske thinks he'll have more of a community-oriented perspective than Jay Johnson, the advisory committee member he's replacing. A Moore campaign contributor, Johnson is the landlord who owns the apartment building, at 7706 N. Marshfield, where six children died in a fire last September. "I hammered Joe during the campaign for having Johnson on his zoning committee," says Ginderske. "He's not from the community. He doesn't live here."
Moore asked Ginderske to serve on the advisory committee a few days ago. "After the election, I sat down with both candidates who made it to the runoff," says Ginderske. "I talked about the things I felt should be done in the neighborhood. They both listened and were very polite. Frankly, I have more in common with Joe Moore than Don Gordon. But I've certainly not endorsed Joe, and I've made that clear."
So why did Moore name him to his advisory committee if he's not getting an endorsement in return?
"I open my committee to a diversity of views--it's not a rubber stamp," Moore says. "I was impressed by the way Jim ran against me. He called me to congratulate me. We got together to talk about economic development issues. We share a lot of common values. I felt that with Mr. Johnson's resignation it would be good to get Jim working on these issues in the ward. We haven't discussed in any detail whether he endorses me, and I'm not claiming in any way that he has."
The fourth candidate in the February 27 election, Chris Adams, has endorsed Gordon.

Neighborhood reaction to the political stunt by Benedict Arnold. http://morsehellhole.blogspot.com/2007/03/ginderske-to-join-49th-ward-zoning.html
Geeeez. Where do we begin? Ginderske says "Frankly, I have more in common with Joe Moore than Don Gordon." Of course you do, Jimbo, you're one of his shills, put up to dilute any strong effort to unseat 'Dinky' Moore abysmal reign over the 49th ward. Too bad it didn't work. Big Joe gonna have to go one-on-one after all. As for little Jimmy's appointment to 'serve' on the ward's zoning committee, well, can we say 'rubber stamp for Dinky'? That is, of course, if Moore manages to retain his office. Thanks for linking to Mr. Gordon's site; if he does even half of what he's saying he'll do, we'll have a good chance of ridding the ward of those low-life, scum-bag, slum landlords, who have plagued this area for so long. Moore's going to pull out all the stops on this one, so voter turnout will be vital. Now's the time for all residents of the ward to step up and be counted. ==HAVE NO DOUBT, VOTE MOORE OUT==
The comments on the BH are dead on. Jim has no track record in RP. He's a zero. What a jerk. Vote Gordon.
Jims voice on this committee will last until April 18. Then Joe will toss him aside like yesterdays garbage.
This is becoming a trend. Why did these wannabes even run if they like these hos so much?
If Ginderske wasn't/isn't Moore's shill, than his assertion that "I believe we can either be an angry voice in the wilderness or we can stay involved. I want to stay involved in the community." shows that he's playing the old, 'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em' game. How many people are on the ward's 'advisory' zoning commitee? What makes Ginderske think he won't remain an 'angry voice in the wilderness' anyway? Who does Ginderske think he's fooling? If he really wanted to stay involved in his community, he'd be 100% in supprot of the challenger, DON GORDON! Oh yeah, that's right, he doesn't have much in common with Gordon. What a surprise. And so true.
I KNOW you know the answer to that one. The word SHILL says it all. Divide and Conquer, an age old strategy that is usually successful, when the opposition lacks unity of purpose. ==WHEN IN DOUBT, VOTE THEM OUT==
Well, he's certainly right about those angry voices in the wilderness. Howl away, Gordon supporters--you're scaring your neighbors and ensuring more votes for Joe.
49th warder. One of the many things scaring the neighbors are the slum building/firetraps that Joe Blow and his buddies have supported the proliferation of. And one of the many things that anger the wards' residents is the misuse of their hard-earned tax dollars, being funneled through sweetheart deals, to be used to buy those 'moore' votes you speak of. There is always uncertainty, in a run-off race, but one thing IS certain: Opportunity is knocking. So, voters of the 49th ward, on April 27th, open the door & show joe moore TO THE UNEMPLOYMENT LINE.
I sure hope the voters don't go to the polls on the 27th, it'll be too late. Vote early, vote Gordon.
nice save, buddy, my bad. ==WHEN IN DOUBT, VOTE MOORE OUT==

Does this mean that joe and jim are now a couple?
The video was cute, but why are we talking about some has been who wants 15 more minutes of fame?
It's disappointing to me to see this, but I believe (unlike Jim) that Gordon can and will win. It's time for a change- it's as simple as that. I have two words for everyone: TERM LIMITS! We need them to prevent the entrenched corruption and play to pay politics.
How about some full disclosure about the identity of Craig Gernhardt? He's got a personal vendetta against Jim Ginderske and even threatened him via email. Is that the type of person who you should trust to judge Jim Ginderske? Anyone who lives in this neighborhood knows Gernhardt's true nature as a bully, loud mouth, and reactionary of the first degree. He has no journalistic principles and his amateurish blog freely dishes out half truths and outright lies. He's nothing but an empty headed gadfly, with no political sense or interpersonal skills. If this miserable excuse for a human being is representative of those around the Gordon campaign, it's no surprise that Jim would choose to have nothing to do with it.
So, because RPcitizen finds a guy named Craig to be an asshole, and because this Craig guy either supports Gordon or opposes Moore or both, we should re-elect Moore because ......why? Because he's a proven supporter of slum landlord Jay, the torch, Johnson? Because he's less of an asshole than this Craig guy? Because Ginderske condemned Moore BEFORE losing his bid for alderman and now LOVES Moore and says Moore's a swell fellow? Because Ginderske is a 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' kinda guy? Because RPcitizen figures he'll/she'll be losing his/her cushy clout job or generous clout contract or free-pass on building code violations in his/her slum buildings, if Moore gets voted out/fired? As if half-truths and outright lies aren't spoken/printed all the time, by politicians, bought-and-paid-for major media hacks and the talking-heads that pass for news reporters on TV. Look around you. See what Moore's 'years of public service' have done to the ward. Ask yourself why there are so many slum buildings being allowed to flourish and be milked into the ground. Ask yourself what's Moore done for you AT ALL, let alone lately. Ask yourself what Moore has done TO this ward, throughout his tenure. Then cast your vote as you will.
I don't know Craig. However, I live in the neighborhood and I've observed him at a couple of the forums. He struck me as friendly and rather low key and not as described by RPCitizen. Blogs are for opinions. Craig has a right to his. I don't agree with everything he says but he's certainly opened my eyes to plenty and I'm grateful. Many of my neighbors read it as well - it gets the dialogue going. Thats a tremendous service, especially in the service and information void of the 49th Ward. Anyone who runs for public office (like Mr. Ginderske) hold themselves out for public scruitiny. I never thought his RP Plan had much substance. Certainly not compared to the depth Gordon has gone into. In the forums I found Ginderske to be an engaging public figure - though I got tired of every single question getting twisted back to the issue of housing. Jim clearly took pains to tell us again and again how he was above the fray of petty politics. Really? As Mr. Gordon is prone to say ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.
Attacking Gordon supporters shows the high school thug mentality and lack of respect for ALL voters of Ward 49 by Moore and his gang. The subject of the post is about Jim n' Joe 'moving forward'! If Moore had any coconuts he would have demanded Johnsons resignation after the fire that killed 6 children. He didn't. Joe protected Johnson in every media available to him. Not ony did he protect Johnson, he was covering his own backside. This ward needs deep investigations in a lot of areas. So the bottom line is VOTE GORDON for change or vote for moore of the same disrespect and lies we've grown to hate. It has nothing to do with angry voices in the wilderness kiddo, we're in the City of Chicago and we have a right to be angry with every tax hike, rent hike, utility hike and SSA/TIF implemented by the white collar gang of Moore. He has no right to hold an office veiled in lies and secrets.
I am no fan of Joe Moore, and certainly nobody with a patronage job or any city clout, but let's review Gordon's actions as you want: - Attended a CAPS meeting and told those attending to call the homeless in the park "squatters" rather than use the term "homeless" because it evokes sympathy. - Chased black teenagers down the block with his pal Andy carrying a baseball bat. - Courted the white racist North of Howard voters who want get rid of section 8 housing and move all the minorities out of the neighborhood. - Started the RP conservancy but did nothing with it. - Got involved in the site location for the New Field School because he didn't want minority kids anywhere near his home, which was close to the initial site suggested. - Thinks that business and city government operate on the same principles. Message to Don: one is run for profit the other is not (certainly a lesson that could be learned from Joe Moore's tenure). - Has openly courted money from the Illinois Restaurant Association which opposes the citywide smoking ban (so much for the fit for life motto). - Is endorsed by Chicago Tribune, and Chris Adams (aka, Mr. Walmart and Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce), who not only don't support a living wage but also oppose the renewal of the 7% property tax cap. - Has received major bucks from the Pritzker family, no supporters of the little guys or clean government. Those are the facts, now try to square your propaganda about Don Gordon with them.
rpcitizen is tommy westgard the guy in the duck suit who is another sore loser stop hiding behind the suit tommy boy you made the same sort of comments on your blog
RPCitizen may be a guy in a bird suit, but his points about Gordon are well taken. Rogers Park is a progressive community, folks--that's why Joe Moore got just under half the vote to begin with. I find it hard to believe a guy backed by the Chamber of Commerce (not to mention the troglodyte Trib) is the right leader for a ward that should be proud of its diversity and affordability. Plus Moore is the the closest thing to an independent alderman that we have. I'm not denying that our neighborhood has problems. I just haven't seen anything to suggest Don Gordon is the person to fix them. Frankly, I find him sinister.
Westgard was a pro Moore supporter and has his own racial closet he needs to open the door on. Westgard blogged about 'black' dealers hanging out in the doorway of his office but wouldn't respond when asked if he called 911. As for Ginderske, no one had heard of him until he appeared on Broken Heart blog standing in a man hole. Then suddenly he was everywhere. So if he can't win the coveted seat, he'll take second rate volunteer work as the 'voice of reason' with a bunch of developers right? Jim and Westgard dug up more dirt on Moore and the other candidates than anyone, so let's not whitewash the TRUTH.
Hey everyone, it's Toto!!! Craig banned me from his blog cuz I was critical of some of his foolish blogs. Like the time he demanded Alberto's Pizzeria be closed down. This is the only worthwhile business on Morse, but CG wanted it closed because the noise of the garbage pick-up disturbed him. (Boo hoo). My big beef with Craig and his syncopants are that they are a bunch of windbags. They want affordable housing, yet complain about all the section 8 and subsidized housing. They want a reduction in perceived crime, yet don't understand that the police department is the one that makes deployment judgements, not the alderman. They want new development in RP but throw tantrums anytime anybody proposes something new. Yeah, Joe Moore is a worthless idiot in my opionion. But Craig and the other RP bloggers have to get off their butts if they think they can beat him. (0)(-)
Toto is a coward commenter. For the record, the mutt got banned for stupid comments like the one above. Until Toto can produce a real name, the closet case can bark elsewhere.
"Yeah, Joe Moore is a worthless idiot" That pretty much says it all.
I just read this stuff for the first time. I don't blame you for thinking that the guy posting above was me - I have said most or all of those things at one time or another, and I'm not taking them back now. I am just interested to see them reposted by someone else. Apparently, I'm not the only one who sees things the way I do. RPCitizen did a great job of cataloging and summarizing a long list of important items. But (s)he isn't me. And let me confirm that I was the guy in the duck suit. Proud of it, thank you very much. It was a lot of fun to pull that stunt. QUACK!
Actually, the New Field School thing I don't know anything about, which is why I haven't blogged it. I'd be interested in hearing more about that. What exactly was Don Gordon's involvement, and how do we know his motivations?
racist tommy calls black people poor http://morsehellhole.blogspot.com/2007/02/moore-workers-dressed-in-shabby-stained.html
So, Tommy, when is it, exactly, that you start your new city job? Or will you be feeding off the trough of the ward office's budget? I guess it ain't so bad, after all, how much can a duck eat?
RP Citizen, 49th_warder, Westgard: You're a bunch of honkeys pulling the race card. You are SCUM!
I've been told that the word 'toto' has a special meaning in the Spanish speaking community. Does anyone know what this is? (I don't think it has anything to do with Dorothy's little dog.)
From the whisper campaign going on, the leader is Joe Moore. He is spreading hate filled speech about Don Gordon that is JUST NOT TRUE. Look at his chief of staff, he is a gay, black man. And they are friends. Joe should be a shamed of himself for spreading these lies.
Pardon me, but how is it pulling the race card to praise our neighborhood as progressive and diverse?
If a hood full of boarded up storefronts is progressive, then yeah, RP is progressive.
What's a white attorney know about being a minority? Not much from what I can see. RPCitizen/Westgard has his own race issue. He will unabashedly lump minority and the poor in one group while at the same time insulting these people. It's slap in the face for the minorities and lower income supporters, friends, volunteers, colleagues and staff of the Gordon campaign. Thanks to Westgard, the Ginderske campaign had to put a gag on this man for damage control from losing supporters and voters.
RP Citizen claimed that Don Gordon " Has received major bucks from the Pritzker family, no supporters of the little guys or clean government." $5,000.00 12/29/2006 Individual Contribution Citizens for Joe Moore Pritzker, James N. Occupation: Prinicpal Employer: Tawani Enterprises 63 W. Jackson Ste 460 Chicago, IL 60604
If 20 different gangs roaming the streets slinging crack and shooting each other is diverse, then yeah, RP is diverse.
Let's step back a bit, and look at things from an historical perspective. Immense wealth can be gained from the manipulation of real estate values. Here's how it's been done in Chicago: 1) determine which areas have the potential of being attractive to those blessed with high incomes and ample financial resources. (Transportation facilities, classic architecture, established parks and recreation facilities, proximity to the Loop, etc. are all pluses.) 2) Neglect the chosen target areas for as long as possible, for the purpose of depreciating property values by, among other means, decreasing safety related activities, (or encourage the perception of same), neglecting the infrastructure, pandering to prejudices, harassing individual, cloutless homeowners thru punitive building code citations, etc.. 3) Buy up, thru dummy corporations and such, properties of those fleeing the neglected area, then neglect and milk said properties or demolish same. 4) Continue accumulating properties, with or without buildings on them and continue to neglect the areas' remaining residents' basic needs, as property prices drop even further. 5) Entice the ever optomistic and gutsy 'urban pioneers', with dirt cheap rentals and a few reasonably priced building sales, (tho still making you double to triple on what you paid for them) 6) Watch and Wait, while the 'urban pioneers' do all your work for you. 7) As the time to cash in approaches, stimulate the progress of the process by beginning the work of repairing and improving those past neglected infrastructures and increasing the activities effective in increasing the safety of residents, or the perception of same. 8) Raise rents on all your previously neglected and milked properties, thus forcing out any remaining 'undesirables'. (and remember NOT to thank them for their past contributions relative to depressing property values) 9) Cash in, BIG TIME, when those previously mentioned individuals with high incomes and ample resources now flock to the new 'hot' neighborhood. 10) Oh, don't forget to juice the builders and contractors who'll also be gathering at your doorstep, begging for the chance to build on those vacant lots you've been sitting on or buy them for 20 to 50 times what you got them for. and DATS DA CHICAGO WAY
that's pretty damned good "Da Chicago Way," but I think the practice of moving a homeless shelter (preferably poorly managed) into prime real estate neighborhoods, later to be moved once the "right people" buy the surrounding property at depressed prices, warrants special bullet points for "advanced shenaniganizing." See the South Loop as a "completed" and Uptown as an "underway" for examples of this time-honored practice of urban revitalization.
So, what 'areas' of the city does 'Chicago Way' figure are on this assembly line of wealth 'building' now? (and, no, I'm not asking 'cause I've got some bucks to 'invest' in Chicago style carpet-bagging!)
heres more on our little racist tommy he doesnt even have the balls to keep his word thanks craigie for covering this i wondered why all his comments were deleted http://morsehellhole.blogspot.com/2006/12/people-of-year-06-part-2.html
Not to diminish the egregious rascalism, and arrogant disdain for the less fortunate, embodied by that scheme, but, the Mr. Potter-type spiders prefer the long-term 'Da Chicago Way' web weaving, which turns pennies invested into C-notes, albeit over a much longer time-frame. The web-weavers are patient folks, and seem to live forever. Lucky for the world that good people are being born every day. Now, the challenge is for those good people to not fall for the varity of bullshit that enables the spiders to weave their webs. No disrespect meant to those spiders of insect genealogy.
RP Citizen...You are playing the race card because you are insinuating certain people are racist based on heresay and twisting events to fit that conclusion. It's a really nasty insinuation and smells like a witch hunt to me.
let's look at your 'enlightening' post, item by item. == "Attended a CAPS meeting and ...." If Don actually said something like this, it does sound a bit cold-hearted. I don't suppose, tho, that Moore, or any of his supporters, have opened their homes to the homeless lately, or ever, so what's your point? == "Chased black teenagers down the block ......" You don't mean to suggest that, were these teenagers' skin color NOT 'black', that they wouldn't have been "chased .... down the block", for whatever reason(s) that occurred, if, in fact, it did? == "Courted the white racist ...." I suggest that one checks out a map of the boundaries of the city limits .... 2/3rds of the northern boundary of the ward is south of Howard. Who are these so-called 'racist voters' referred to, 'north of Howard'? == "Started the RP ....." Insufficient data to draw any conclusion(s)from. And anyway, so what? == "Got involved in the site location for ...." News flash: Most people without school-aged children don't want to live 'close' to hundreds of kids, of whatever social status, coming and going daily. If you've ever lived near a grammar school, you'll know why. == "Thinks that business and city government operate ..." Message to knucklehead: If you really think that 'city government' is a not-for-profit enterprise, then you truly don't have a patronage job, sweetheart deal, or no-bid contract. == "Has openly courted money ...." Like 'Dinky Moore' hasn't? Ask Jay Johnson what the going rate for payoffs is. == "Is endorsed by ......" This is the only item that should be remotely disturbing. Of course, if 'Dinky' had been endorsed by same, would you be trying to use this as a negative? == "Has received major bucks from ..." Do you mean to say that Moore's EVER turned down a single nickel, from any source? Also, see the relevant item above. So, we find that RP citizen really hasn't said much of anything worth considering at all. Typical 'Dinky Moore' supporter.
Jim Ginderske(JG) is the one with the personal vendetta against Craig Gernhardt. It pretty much exploded when Craig exposed that the JG campaign had put political flyers for an event without permission or paying for advertisement in the Tribuneâs Redeye. Several people got it in the Redeye including me. Craig G. may support Gordon over Moore but he is not part of the any campaign. In fact, RP Citizen fails to mention that Gordon got his share anguish on MorseHellHole especially when his daughter was dragged through the mud in Septemeber 06. Once again, JG campaign did the legwork. I donât always agree with Craig. He may have a loud mouth but the most vicious and demeaning bullies (on multiple levels) are the JG blog team especially Tom âpit bullâ Westgard who removed all his previous posts except when he posts under another alias. Heâs constantly playing the race card. He doesnât know a thing about being a poor minority and defines them as needy and helpless victims. On another note, Iâll leave you with less vicious side of TW: Men and Therapy Psychology Today, Sept-Oct, 2004 by Thomas Westgard "Is this what men can expect from therapy-getting blamed for everything? ("Man's Last Stand," August.) Women set men up to fail in marriage. From the beginning, the therapy is undermined by the wife's hope that the therapist will undertake to explain what she won't. No wonder men are hostile to it. The truth is more complex than blaming one gender. More important, laying fault solely at the feet of men will not get them interested in therapy--or in repairing a failing relationship." Thomas Westgard Chicago, IL
Change the subject back to politics please. New video of the 49th ward race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjEy4iAjjx4
We're all just waiting for Moore's indictments to come down.
Sometimes I wonder if those who don't vote or don't register to vote understand how much of their hard earned income is wasted by the gross mismanagement and misuse of the tax dollars we all are forced to 'pony up'. Property Taxes, (part of your rent, if you don't own property AND part of the price you pay for everything you buy, goods and services, 'cause the businesses you buy from pay the same or greater taxes than you do.) Sales taxes of all kinds. Income taxes, both state and federal. Licenses, Fees, Fines, Permits, etc. (also passed on to the consumers) Utility taxes, in addition to the sales taxes, which juice your utility bills. Mystery taxes you may or may not see, and couldn't know what they're for anyway. What's the calculation now, something like 40% - 45% of our GROSS income is taken from us in taxes. Every year we work from January 1st until mid May and ALL of our income earned during that time goes directly into the pockets of some government agency. Granted, many things that government uses our tax dollars for are beneficial to us all. Many, however, are not. Yet, year after year, decade after decade, there still seems to be a steady 70% - 80% of our fellow citizens who either don't vote or don't even bother to register. Our 'elected officials' pay lip service to 'getting more people to register', and only make efforts to do so that benefit their particular political party. WAKE UP, WAKE UP, SLEEPY VOTERS! Our fates are in our own hands.
FEED US! FEED US! WE HUNGER FOR MORE UP-TO-DATE JORAVSKY PROSE!! PAT MAC IS 5 ARTICLES UP ON YOU! WHAT, ARE YOU ON VACATION? FEED US!!!
Don Gordon is clearly either racist, or simply does not have the cultural understanding to be able to deal with a mullti-cultural community like Rogers Park. I hope Ginderske endorses Moore. Have you seen this? http://morosehellhole.blogspot.com/2007/03/newsflash-gordiots-still-angry.html
So, you link to a satire page, which starts with a disclaimer that it is a satire page, and you figure this tells us what about you?
Who wants to bet that, should Moore squeak by and 'win' this one, that there'll be a lot of interest in the likelihood of vote fraud? If Don loses by less than 100 votes, I'd be shocked if Moore voter fraud wasn't responsible.
