Jude Law, Nicolas Cage, Scarlett Johansson, and the rest of this week's screenings

Now that spring has sprung, you may be less inclined to sit in a movie theater, but this weekend brings a number of strong new releases: Cheap Thrills, a potent indie about two guys down on their luck and the asshole millionaire who throws cash at them to hurt and degrade themselves; Dom Hemingway, a British comedy starring Jude Law as a an angry ex-con; Hide Your Smiling Faces, a low-key regional effort about two brothers dealing with the death of a friend; Joe, starring Nicolas Cage as a brooding loner who takes a teenager under his wing; and Under the Skin, a moody sci-fi effort with Scarlett Johansson as a space alien stalking a series of men.

The Chicago Latino Film Festival continues at River East 21 and other area venues; check out our updated sidebar, with four new reviews. Also opening this week: Cuban Fury, with Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) as an office schlub with a secret passion for salsa dancing; Documented, part of the Asian American Showcase at Gene Siskel Film Center; Draft Day, with Kevin Costner as general manager of an NFL team; and The French Minister, a political satire by the venerable French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier (Round Midnight).
