When I interviewed local production duo the-Drum
last September they told me that their goal was to move away from making instrumental music and start composing beats for an R&B singer, possibly local hero Jeremih
. So far they haven't been able to hook up with the "Birthday Sex" vocalist, but they've recently hooked up with a vocal trio called JODY that includes James King, aka former 12 O'Clock Track featured artist the GTW
Recently the group released its first track on SoundCloud. "Echoes" pairs the-Drum's emphasis on psychedelic texture with hooks sharp enough to give the plentiful ambience some focus. With its pitch-shifted vocals and shimmering synth washes, it sounds like the R&B answer to A$AP Rocky's Long.Live.A$AP. Check it out after the jump.
