A glimpse of George McGovern in 1971

Compliments of Media Burn, a glimpse of George McGovern in August 1971, when the presidential nomination he'd receive a year later still seemed, at best, remotely possible. McGovern's talking about Vietnam and courage—his own. Candidates today are adept at signifying their fearlessness, but do they ever come right out and call themselves brave?

The former U.S. senator from South Dakota died Sunday at the age of 90. Here and here he's remembered in two rather different ways.
