Sox never, ever do nothing nice and easy

Ike & Tina Turner: They too never ever did nothing nice and easy.
No sooner had the White Sox won their key makeup game with the Detroit Tigers on Monday, fresh off a series win in Minnesota against the Twins, than they went to Kansas City and dropped two of three to the pesky Royals, who have played them as tough as anyone this year.

This thankfully ended the season series with the Royals, who took 12 of the 18 games against the Sox.

Yet it was the way the Sox lost Thursday that annoyed. The Sox blew a 3-0 lead. They pissed away two men on third with baserunning boners. Gordon Beckham missed a chance to get the tying run at the plate with a relay throw up the third-base line, and Matt Thornton allowed the game-winning run to score in the ninth by grooving an 0-2 pitch with two out.

About the only thing a Sox fan could hang his or her cap on was that the Sox never, ever do nothing nice and easy. Even in their championship season of 2005, when they went wire to wire and 11-1 in the postseason, September was their worst month and threw a scare into the fans.

Still, even as the Sox retained a two-game lead on the Tigers in the American League Central, with a magic number of 12, they've made their way fraught with tension. They have two series with playoff contenders, the Angels in Los Angeles and the Tampa Bay Rays here at White Sox Park, sandwiched around home-and-home series with the Cleveland Indians.

It's not going to be easy. But it never, ever is with the Sox.
