Mud, sweat, and tears: Photos from day two of the Pitchfork Music Festival

Sleigh Bells
At the start of yesterday, the collective outlook by most people I talked to at the Pitchfork Music Festival was, "This is going to be a giant pain in the ass." Two giant, half-hour-long rainfalls left the fields in Union Park muddy, the hot air, the rest of the day muggy, and the shirts and underwear of the audience clingy. It also created a mud pit that, thanks to Liturgy's set, spawned one of the most lasting images from this year's festival.

And there were many terrific sets the rest of the day: Miles Raymer saw seven people's heads explode during a Pharoahe Monch drop in a Flying Lotus set, Leor Galil caught Atlas Moth's head-to-head screaming match, Kevin Warwick admitted that Sleigh Bells is actually really good live, I saw Lake Michigan part behind 16-millimeter reels during Godspeed You! Black Emperor's set, and when Mara Shalhoup wasn't hiding from the rain in the elite-pass field house, she was making requests for Sleigh Bells workout videos. And everyone had their fair share of Danny Brown sightings.

Check out some photos and a slideshow of yesterday's proceedings after the jump. And check here for photos from day one (Friday) and here for photos from day three(Sunday).

Its one way to cool off.

Godspeed You! Black Emperors set might have looked . . . delicate. But it ended with the parting of Lake Michigan.
