Music / Post No Bills Eddie Palmieri and Brian Lynch bring an exciting new band to Mayne Stage

Palmieri has been rightly celebrated for the innovations he introduced to salsa and Latin jazz—adding extended solos and adventurous harmonies, as well as tweaking the standard instrumentation by using a trombone-only horn section with his classic band La Perfecta—but he's also demonstrated a love for and facility in jazz improvisation. This quartet clearly privileges the "jazz" part of Latin jazz, adapting tunes from the 2006 album Simpático (ArtistShare), which Lynch and Palmieri made together with a big band, and giving some of Palmieri's classic La Perfecta repertoire a jazz makeover. All four members have also composed new music for the group. Below you can hear a track from Simpático, but you'll need to imagine how this lean, mean outfit might reshape it.
