The Illinois Restaurant Association announced the formation of Chicago's Culinary Crossroads today, a "dine-around initiative" in which more than 50 local restaurants will partner with international chefs to concoct special tasting menus during May's already controversial G8 and NATO summits.

The initiative will take place from May 1-25, much longer than the actual summits (May 19-21 at McCormick Place). Chicago will be the only the second U.S. city besides Washington, D.C. to host a NATO summit and the first city in the world in over 30 years to hold both.

When you dine at one of the participating eateries you will receive a code; after collecting three codes you can register online for a chance to win a Chicago Gourmet weekend package, among other yet-to-be-named prizes. Dirk Flanagan of Henri and the Gage, Tony Priolo of Piccolo Sogno, and Tony Hu of Tony Gourmet Group comprise the committee of Chicago's culinary leaders. Chefs from each G8 nation will partner with many of the participating local restaurants to create dishes and conduct cooking demonstrations and guest lectures at CPS.
