Simeon: Too much of a good thing?

Posted By on 02.18.12 at 01:18 PM

Top-ranked Simeon made it to Friday's Public League boys' basketball title game, but it might regret previously scheduling a spot in Saturday's City/Suburban Showdown, at Proviso West.

Simeon, behind top junior prospect Jabari Parker and senior leader Steve Taylor, beat Curie 53-49 for the city title Friday at Chicago State. Yet the 25-1 Wolverines are slated to turn it right around to play 14-5 De La Salle in the marquee matchup of the City/Suburban Showdown at 8:30 PM Saturday.

Simeon has only lost out of state, to Nevada's Findlay Prep on a nationally televised Martin Luther King Day game in Massachusetts. So now it puts the city title on the line, followed by the city's honor vs. the suburbs less than 24 hours later. It says here Simeon has what it takes to pull off the Irish double-header, but we'll see. That's why they play the games, after all.
