MP Shows began booking bands at Pancho's, a mostly Cuban restaurant at 2200 N. California, in October 2010, after shows at Ronny's were suddenly shut down. A couple of months ago, MP honcho Brian Peterson and former Treat owner Tamiz Ciccone bought the place, and have since overhauled the menu, beer list, and aesthetic.
The final step of the transformation happened last week, when Pancho's became Township, a nod to the fact that the Logan Square area was once known as Jefferson Township. Peterson says the name change signals a sort of fresh start for the venue and restaurant.
While I wish the best of luck to Township, I can't help but miss Pancho himself, the charming original owner and namesake of the spot—especially his willingness to jump up and play his sax with any band on his stage.
