Per their website: "Barbara's UIC would like to thank everyone for their patronage over the years and we hope to see you at one of our five other Chicagoland bookstores (Macy's, Northwestern Hospital, Willis Tower, Burr Ridge and Glenview) or at one of the six O'Hare Airport bookstores."
That's a shame. The UIC location routinely hosted some pretty good author events, recently featuring the likes of Gerald Nicosia, Greg Palast, and Peter Orner.
I guess they can always sign books at O'Hare.

I'll always treasure the original Barbara's in Old Town for keeping a copy of Gravity's Rainbow in their "Visiting Authors" rack.
I still miss their Lakeview location(s) on Broadway: the original one just north of Surf, which then moved up the street at Briar. I bought a LOT of books there. And as a new Oak Park resident, I'm sorry they closed that location about a couple of years ago. The Macy's location was always a small operation which is even smaller now that more than half of its shelves are filled with stuffed animals and kids games. I regret not going to the University Village location more, but that was out of the way -- as is Northwestern Hospital. I spit on your grave, Borders!!!
I was a regular at the original location, but I'm not surprised that they closed given market conditions and the high rents over there.
