This week on the B Side

My downstairs neighbor likes to play current radio-pop hits on a pretty well amplified electronic piano. Local rapper King Louie likes to smoke a shitload of weed, at least judging by his videos. Normally there would be no reason to note these two facts side by side, except for the fact that the tape of my interview with Louie for my profile in this week's Reader, which I conducted by phone at home, had a lot of meandering trains of thought on his side of the conversation and a lot of my neighbor working out the kinks in her cover of Katy Perry's "Firework." It was one of the more surreal experiences I've ever had transcribing an interview.

Elsewhere in the B Side, Gossip Wolf tells us what's up with local groups Tiger Bones, Like Pioneers, and Lord. Speaking of "Lord," this week's Three Beats has the dish on local garage rockers from White Mystery and Outer Minds garage rocking for God, as well as rapper ShowYouSuck and synthy experimental act Quicksails, aka Tiger Hatchery and Moonrises drummer Ben Billington. This week's Soundboard recommends shows by Dave Rempis & Frank Rosaly, Sweet Cobra, Iris DeMent, Secret Colours, and more, plus a guide to this year's expanded Tomorrow Never Knows festival, which includes five venues and, for the first time, stand-up comedy.
