The New-York based club has been meeting since 2005 on dates that resemble corduroy (1/11 and 11/11); members have to wear two items of corduroy to meetings—except tomorrow's Grandest Meeting, which requires three items. The meeting will also involve "dark secret rituals;" awards for exemplary usage of corduroy; corduroy-inspired singing, dancing, and poetry; and the installation of a "Corduroy Messiah," a child who will turn 11 on 11/11/11.
The Grandest Meeting is sold out (and, well, in New York), but other cities, including Chicago, will have their own events. In Chicago, Millie’s Tavern (1817 W. Wellington) will host the first Chicagoland Corduroy Appreciation Ball, with drink specials and prizes for "best dressed," starting at 9 PM. If you'd rather contemplate the wonders of corduroy without having to go anywhere, check out the corduroy poetry in the club's member gallery.
