Style Madewell opens at Old Orchard

Madewell, J. Crew's little sister, is opening its first Illinois store at Westfield Old Orchard today. J. Crew leased the name of the defunct brand —originally a Massachusetts-based workwear label in the 30s—and launched several stores in 2005. The e-commerce site followed in 2010, helped along by a collaboration with It Girl Alexa Chung. Clothes tend to be a little cooler than J. Crew, but with the same appreciation for spiffed-up versions of basics like cardigans, blazers, and shirtdresses.
