Cave hits the road

On Tuesday, September 20, Drag City will release Neverendless, the stunning new album by local motorik masters Cave. I haven't heard a better rock record from Chicago all year, and in fact there aren't many rock records from anywhere that I like as much as this one. The four-piece have a couple of local release shows this week before they hit the road for the next three months: on Thursday they play an underground space (you'll need to use your Google skills to learn the details about that one), and on Friday they kick off the inaugural Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements festival in Eckhart Park.

But on Thursday, September 15, starting at noon, Cave will really be hitting the road. They'll set up on a flatbed truck and tour the city, playing as they go. This trip will be significantly shorter than the one they undertake after the Brilliant Corners gig: They'll drive east on Milwaukee Avenue, departing from near the Logan Square Monument, and end near the intersection of Milwaukee and Ashland. They hope to stop the truck for a mini performance near Damen, but no promises have been made. Below you can listen to "Adam Roberts" from the new album.

Cave, "Adam Roberts"

Today's playlist:

Roberto Ribeiro, Arrasta Povo/Roberto Ribeiro (EMI, Brazil)
Jimmy Smith, Plays Fats Waller (Blue Note)
Glima, Tårån (NORCD)
Beat Furrer, Streichquartett Nr. 3 (Kairos)
Modern Jazz Quartet, Django (Prestige/OJC)
