Visual Art Yawn: Art Institute of Chicago's acting president Douglas Druick gets to keep his job

The Art Institute of Chicago's Acting President and Eloise W. Martin Director Douglas Druick will be dropping the "Acting" from his title, according to an announcement from the museum today.
Druick, 66, who's been at the AIC for 26 years, has been handling the top job since former president James Cuno left for the J. Paul Getty Trust in June. He also has sweeping curatorial responsibilities: Druick is chair of both the Department of Prints and Drawings and the Department of Medieval to Modern European Painting and Sculpture.
The trustees, acting with relative haste, apparently reached for stability and familiarity, at least for the next few years. Assuming that Druick's giving up his curatorial jobs, they've also created a chance to make a logical division of an odd conglomeration of responsibilities.
Not an earth-shaking announcement, but Druick has deep knowledge of the institution and is said to be popular with the staff. Now, if he could just drop Eloise from his title . . .
