Former Ch. 2 reporter and current Columbia College instructor Steven Lattimore's documentary The Jimmy Reed Experience chronicles the life and music of the bluesman, who topped the charts in the 50s and 60s with "Baby What You Want Me To Do," "Big Boss Man," and "Bright Lights, Big City," but struggled financially despite being covered by Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones and the Grateful Dead.
The Jimmy Reed Experience screens Tuesday 2/15 at 7p.m. at Dominican University, followed by the panel discussion "Legal Blues: Lessons of Jimmy Reed" with Reed's children Jimmy Jr., Rose and Loretta; Willie Dixon's daughter Marie, Koko Taylor's daughter Cookie Taylor Threatt, bluesmen Eddie Taylor Jr., Lonnie Brooks and Chuck Barksdale, and Fernando Jones and George Bailey from Columbia.
A jam session with the Reeds and Taylor closes the program, which is at Buhm Auditorium, Parmer Hall, 7900 W. Division St., River Forest. It's free but seating is limited. RSVP to (708) 524-6050.
