Mayor Daley Continues to Circle Around Drawing on TIF Funds

8/24: "'Everybody wants to raid something,' Daley said. 'I’m not going to listen to state government for financial advice.'"

8/26: "Daley said he would 'look carefully at using a portion' of the hundreds of millions of dollars in city tax-increment financing, or TIF, accounts to help balance the budget."

Mayor Daley isn't going to let a little thing like municipal insolvency force him to tap into his slush fund.

Hello,

My name is Devon Reid I’m about 18 and I’m running for alderman of the 26th ward. I have no political ties and stand against the way Chicago politics are run. While campaigning I’ve come across a few news worthy facts about Maldonado, While making neighborhood visits he handed out list Implying that if he were re-elected he would bring services on the list into play, but the services are already available for free by calling 311(I can Email you a copy if you want it). I was also told by a man named Arturo Delphi that Maldonado promised him a city job if he campaigned for him. I can also provide Mr. Delphi as a witness if needed. Ald. Maldonado needs to be exposed for the Chicago politician he is, What he is doing has to be illegal,at the least it is immoral.

-Thank You

Hi everyone David M. MANN here, and I want to inform you of my interest in running as the Independent Write-In-candidate for Governor of Illinois to stop the jumbled political approach that actually results from not using The Economic Rent-of-Land-Value Tax System, that is extremely versatile, flexible, and economical, and is extremely easy on the pocket-book because you wont have to shell out thousands, even billions in income and sales taxes, and parking meter, or Real-Estate fees! You have to get on my bandwagon now though; not just here in the Chicago area--it's has to be throughout the entire State of Illinois! Why? Because theres only 66 days until the Illinois General Election on November 2, 2010! I mean, wouldnt you rather have Georgists than a GOP elephant, a Democratic donkey, Walls, Cohen, and some guy posing as a Libertarian, and is really a Super-Duper Conserv-e-ative in disguise? Come on! You want to be a follower of Henry George! True Champion-of-The-People! Sure you do!

Mayor Daley is thinking about not running in the next election I think. He's not sure yet, but if he does retire he doesn't want to leave his succesor with a lot of money that could be immediately put to productive use. In support of this view I point to all the Daley supporting aldermen who seem to be getting the message and announcing that they will not run for re-election. If Mr. Daley does decide not to run I suspect the first we will know about it is a sudden injection of TIF money into schools, parks, roads, and other populist projects - rather than the business support that the money has primarily been used for in the past.
