Beanie Sigel Making a Midwest Move?

Posted By on 08.25.10 at 02:44 PM

Andrew Barber at Fake Shore Drive reports that Philadelphia native and former Roc-a-Fella Records artist Beanie Sigel has been considering setting up shop in Chicago: he's been on a tear through some of the city's higher-profile open mikes and word has spread of a collaboration with local MC King the Hood Savior. Today Barber posted the first collabo between the two, a double diss on Jay-Z and Kanye appropriately voiced over "Hate," one of Kanye's contributions to The Blueprint 3. Sigel first started airing his feelings about his strained post-Roc-a-Fella relationship with Jay on last year's "What You Talkin Bout," an anguished and moving self-portrait of a man who found himself abandoned by both a boss and a friend during a bid in federal prison on gun charges. There's not so much nuance on "Haters," where Sigel mostly sticks to repeating the well-worn insult that Kanye's gay because he dresses gay.

I'd be pumped if Sigel started living in Chicago at least part-time. But if he's going to claim a place in a city where the rap scene takes such pride in its hater-ness, he'd better step up his game a little.
