Signs of (Crushingly Slow) Progress

Posted by Whet Moser on 07.21.10 at 06:06 PM

Eric Zorn reaches back into the annals of Illinois political history to find our worst governor ever. Who, after being arrested (after a standoff!) was acquitted (of selling pardons and running a money-laundering scheme) under dubious circumstances, lost a civil suit... and then won reelection.

Much as I was surprised to see Blago reelected, I'm pretty sure at least now he wouldn't stand a chance.

On the other hand, the editorial boards were better, by which I mean less temperate: "He is stupid, and his stupidity plus his indifference to public decency allows him to do the outrageous things for which any governor ought to be impeached."
