Dahling, Shut Up

Posted by Heather Kenny on 07.13.10 at 02:46 PM

Blogger Garance Doré posts a list of fashion catchphrases that a friend just banned from her new style magazine. Among them: LBD (a phrase that has been around for decades), fashionista (a banishment I fully support), vintage/retro (so we should just say secondhand?) and funky. I would add a pop of color, as in "wear bright shoes to add a pop of color to an outfit." What overused phrase or word do you wish you'd never see in the glossy pages of a magazine again?

"Fashionista" is awful, I agree. And "retro" is getting to be kind of annoying, but "vintage" is an actual word with a real meaning, so that ban seems odd to me. Although if they replace it by noting which decade the piece is from, then that would actually be kind of refreshing.
