Two Friday-night shows by King Sunny Ade, the patriarch of Nigerian juju music, at the Old Town School of Folk Music have been canceled—along with shows in Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Lincoln, Nebraska. The band’s tour is now scheduled to begin on April 20 in Saint Louis.

According to Ade’s U.S. publicist, on March 26 two members of his band the African Beats—percussionists Gabriel Ayanniyi and Omo Olope—were killed in Nigeria in a car accident while en route to a video shoot. The tragedy affected communication between the band’s local management and its U.S. agent, resulting in some visa problems for replacement musicians.
