Crickets / Music Lilith Fair Removes Crisis Pregnancy Centers From "Choose Your Charity" Ballots

Overnight Nettwerk, the record label behind woman-centric music festival Lilith Fair, removed several crisis pregnancy centers from the ballots of its online Choose Your Charity campaign. This morning Nettwerk and Lilith Fair publicist Danielle Romeo confirmed that the CPCs had been removed by Nettwerk; she was unsure whether an official statement would be forthcoming. NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina was also removed. Several anti-choice organizations—faith-based maternity homes, abortion-alternative advocacy centers—remain listed. The Chicago ballot hasn't been affected.
Nettwerk CEO Terry McBride, in an e-mail sent Thursday afternoon, told the organizers of a Facebook protest group that Lilith will introduce some criteria for what sort of organizations can qualify for Choose Your Charity.
After introducing the ballots Monday Nettwerk and Lilith Fair encountered opposition from pro-choice advocates and Lilith fans angered by the inclusion of crisis pregnancy centers (notorious for giving out false or misleading information about birth control and abortion, and rarely staffed by trained medical personnel) alongside legitimate health centers and rape-crisis organizations. The Indianapolis-based Life Centers, initially included on the ballot and now gone, state on their Web site that their mission is guided by a "passion to proclaim biblical truth that results in changed lives to the glory of God."
You don't have to be a pro-choice advocate or a Lilith fan to find something wrong with CPCs, though. Baltimore, Maryland, and Austin, Texas, have proposed ordinances to require crisis pregnancy centers that don't provide comprehensive reproductive-health services to post signs informing women of that limitation.

Now we have to go through this again? I hope the performers will stand up and take action in support of pro-choice organizations and against so-called crisis pregnancy centers and adoption homes that coerce and lie to women.
