Interesting new development on the affordable housing front: the Obama administration's sustainable communities effort has led to the inclusion of transportation costs in a new index meant to better define affordable housing, using data provided by Chicago's Center for Neighborhood Technology; the difference between the definitions of affordable including and not including transportation is really quite dramatic (via Eschaton).
