Sade showed up on the Today Show yesterday to sing from her new album, Soldier of Love, looking hardly any different than she did back in 1985, when Diamond Life debuted—yet she doesn't seem stuck in the past. How does she do it?
She goes for a classic look—ponytail, oversize hoop earrings, red lips, and slim-fitting, relatively understated clothing—and simply adapts the elements to the occasion. Whether she's in a simple white shirt or a cheongsam, she always looks like Sade.
While someone like Madonna has transfixed fans with metamorphoses, shedding personae like cocoons, Sade's style is shockingly, even pleasingly static—a mere accessory to her stunning beauty.
