Bike Winter Swap Meet and Urban Bicycle Expo

Posted by Julia Thiel on 02.05.10 at 12:38 PM

The first Bike Winter Swap Meet and Urban Bicycle Expo is tomorrow from 11 AM to 6 PM at Jaks Tap (901 W. Jackson); suggested donation is $5. The organizers—Bike Winter, the UIC College of Cycling, the Active Transportation Alliance, and Big Shoulders Realty—describe it as "a bike extravaganza for the winter months with an urban, transportational focus." More than 40 individuals and local shops will be selling new and used bikes and biking gear at a discount, and at 5 PM there's an auction of biking-related stuff (proceeds will benefit Bike Winter).

There will also be presentations on topics including winter cycling, frame building, folding bikes, powder coating, and building bicycle sound systems (if that sounds intriguing check out the amazing sound systems in this trailer for the documentary Made in Queens). A complete presentation schedule is here.

After the swap, Break the Gridlock will host an "advocacy social" from 6 to 9 PM (also at Jaks Tap) to discuss improving Chicago's transportation options.
