In his documentary Milking the Rhino, David E. Simpson follows two early efforts in Zimbabwe and Kenya at community-based conservation, in which impoverished tribes living in threatened ecosystems replace unsustainable agricultural practices with ecotourism as a tool for economic development and the preservation of endangered species.
Simpson is the featured speaker Tuesday 1/26 at Chicago Filmmakers' monthly meetup.
Simpson also directed the documentary Refrigerator Mothers, about the misattribution of autism to "cold mothering." He edited Vietnam: Long Time Coming, The New Americans, Terra Incognita: The Perils and Promise of Stem Cell Research and Forgiving Dr. Mengele.
Simpson speaks Tuesday 1/26 at 7 PM at Chicago Filmmakers, 5243 N. Clark, 2nd Floor. It's free. RSVP here.
