Garry Wills on Bomb Power

Posted by Jerome Ludwig on 01.26.10 at 08:41 PM

Pulitzer-winning historian Garry Wills (Lincoln at Gettysburg), who's an adjunct professor at Northwestern, talks about his new book Bomb Power: The Modern Presidency and the National Security State (Penguin Press), on Wednesday at the Newberry Library.

Penguin says it's "a groundbreaking examination of how the atomic bomb profoundly altered the nature of American democracy and has left us in a state of war alert ever since."

Noah Berlatsky says it's "very good on the presidency and even better on national security—but none too convincing on how it all relates to the atomic bomb."

Wills also promotes the book on Wednesday, February 17, at the Old Orchard Barnes & Noble in Skokie.
