Senator Raoul's Appeal For Haiti

Posted By on 01.18.10 at 01:24 PM

State senator Kwame Raoul, whose family is from Haiti, has asked that his appeal for relief for earthquake victims be widely disseminated. Here it is.

Dear Friends:

As many of you know I am between tears, confusion, anger and prayers as a result of the earthquake that recently hit my parent's birthplace. As a proud Haitian-American I am appealing you to help me help a people that need and deserve your help. I have created a web page that directs you to two organizations to which I have personally been connected. I serve on the Board of Director's of International Child Care (http://us.internationalchildcare.org/) which operates Grace Children's Hospital in Port au Prince and a number of clinics throughout Haiti. Grace Children's Hospital has been the foremost children's hospital in Haiti. The main hospital building was significantly damaged, but fortunately all of the children were spared. Staff will set up triage operations outside to respond to the medical needs of the children of Haiti and others injured as a result of the earthquake. Grace has been serving the children of Haiti for over forty years and with your help they will not stop now in Haiti's greatest time of need.

My sister, Ninaj Raoul, runs a relief organization named Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees (http://haitianwomen.wordpress.com/) based in Brooklyn, New York home to thousand of Haitian-Americans. In partnership with another organization run by women of Haitian descent in the Dominican Republic, they have been responding to the needs of Haitians who have fell victim to national catastrophe or severe political mistreatment for over fifteen years. They are experience in traveling to difficult to reach areas to provide relief to helpless victims.

Please help me support these organizations. You can click on http:raoulrelieffund.org for links to their respective websites to donate.

I assure you that both organizations will be and have continuously been doing admirable work on the ground in Haiti.

Thank You,

Kwame Raoul
