Even More Weekend Shows

Posted by Kevin Warwick on Thu, Jan 7, 2010 at 4:39 PM

While the List is brimming with recommended musical entertainment, including strings of Lady Gaga and Chicago Symphony Orchestra performances, Rob Mazurek at both the Green Mill and the Hideout, and 80s-metal-band-turned-movie-stars Anvil at the House of Blues, there are a few other notables this weekend that shouldn't fall by the wayside:

Circus punk marching band Mucca Pazza rumbles into the Empty Bottle on Friday with Paper Mice and Andrew Taylor for what's guaranteed to be a raucous time.

Bloodshot Records' Alejandro Escovedo is camping out at FitzGerald's in Berwyn on Friday and Saturday, with the Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra opening both shows.

Described by Miles Raymer in a recent Sharp Darts column as "delta cabaret," local duo My Gold Mask play a record-release show with the Bitter Tears and Violetness at the Hideout on Saturday.

Radical young trumpeter Jacob Wick performs with Jeff Kimmel and David More on Saturday at Heaven Gallery and then hits the Hungry Brain on Sunday, where he'll be joined by Jeb Bishop, John Paul Glover, and Frank Rosaly.

Blues master Buddy Guy takes the stage at his own Buddy Guy's Legends for an annual run of January dates that kicks off today and stretches through the 30th. Though the three shows this weekend are all sold out, I still feel like they're worth a mention just in case you can finagle a ticket or have interest in catching a performance later this month.

Kevin, many thanks for the nice plug on the Alejandro show, with Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra on both dates. Nick and Al have been friends for years and these shows are always ROCKIN!
