Life After Death at E&P?

Posted by Michael Miner on 12.15.09 at 11:46 AM

Editor & Publisher is taking a curtain call, and the show might even go on.

Last Thursday the 108-year-old trade journal announced it was shutting down. Tuesday, editor Greg Mitchell said that because of "overwhelming reader and advertising demand," E&P will stay open long enough to get out its January issue, which will be mailed to subscribers early next month.

After that? "A number of outside companies and individuals have expressed interest in possibly keeping E&P going, so stay tuned for updates," says the magazine. The original announcement said that the owner, Nielsen Company, decided to close E&P because it couldn't find a buyer.

Has anyone heard a rumor that the Medill and Mizzou J-Schools are competing to get E & P to affiliate with one of the schools? Seems logical that if you want to be the top journalism school you might also want to publish the top journalism trade pub.
