Crickets / Music Runoff Notes

On a vinyl record the space between the innermost grooves and the center label is usually left blank, aside from the catalog numbers assigned by the label and etched into each side. But that's not to say there's any rule specifying that only catalog numbers can go there. Occasionally a band will use that space to add a message to their listeners. Public Collectors has compiled a list of these vinyl Easter eggs, most of them from punk and indie records. The sub-Twitter limit to the number of characters means that most of the messages are cryptic—many seem to be band in-jokes—but a few are actually funny. Side A of Shellac's 1000 Hurts says, "What's orange and looks good on hippies?" Side B answers, "Fire."

Thank you for this nice note, Miles. I just saw it now. Recently there has been a surge of new interest in the collection and many new things have been added thanks to submissions by folks who read posts like these.
