It's year three for A La Card Chicago, the deck of $10 gift cards for 52 independent, owner-operated, chef-driven restaurants, each redeemable on any day in 2010 on a minimum tab of $25. To review: that's $520 worth of eating for $30, or as comastermind Natasha Liberman points out, you make your money back in just three nights out.
This year there's 20 restaurants new to the deck, including Taxim, Cemitas Puebla, Vie, Nightwood, and soon-to-open Floriole. Old favorites returning include Hot Doug's, Hot Chocolate, the Bristol, and Katsu.
Buy online or at one of 14 retail locations, with more to be added soon.

The 2009 deck introduced me to several restaurants I probably wouldn't have heard of or tried without the enticement of the discount. The synopsis on each card was extremely helpful. I received it as a thank you gift for letting a friend sleep on my couch all summer. It was totally worth the 3 months of maximum occupancy in my apartment.
