As reported in the New York Times, this Friday Christie's will be auctioning off Cormac McCarthy's Olivetti typewriter to benefit the author's pet charity, the Santa Fe Institute. The author bought it circa 1963 and has written all of his published works—including The Road—on it. According to McCarthy, it's in good working order but shows some signs of nearly 50 years of use. It's expected to bring in $15,000-20,000, complete auction details here.

If you don't have that kind of change in your couch cushions, you can pick up a regular one on eBay for between $10 and $100.
