Sweet!

Posted by Mick Dumke on Fri, Oct 2, 2009 at 11:39 AM

From Ben Joravsky, out in the precincts:

"I was driving down 57th Street headed to Washington Park when I got a call from a friend telling me Chicago had lost its bid for the 2016 Olympics.

"I honked my horn, rolled down the window, and let out a whoop of joy.

"And other people were honking their horns and shouting right back at me. I've now been walking around Washington Park for more than an hour and I haven't found one person who feels bad about this. We will be analyzing the International Olympic Committee's decision for weeks, but the bottom line is this: in Chicago, nobody really wanted the games.

"It's one of the best days of my life since Harold Washington was elected mayor."

Whooo hooooo!!!!!!

Thanks, Ben, for keeping us all in the Loop- ummm- I mean keeping us informed.

I think I'll take a bike ride through one of our beautiful southside parks, grateful that Daley's bulldozers won't be altering them any time soon.

Thanks for your hard work and sharing the info- not just about the Olympic bid, but all of the city's un-democratic machinations.

whoooohoooooo!!!!

Much gratitude to Ben and the rest of the Reader staff for keeping us educated, and of course, for the victory-through-loss this morning. A great day for informed Chicagoans.

The IOC reads the papers, I guess. Daley got totally pwned on this one.

Thanks for your efforts, Reader, and for being one of the first beyond the South Side to draw attention to the disaster this bid would have meant for Washington and other parks.

Neema - Don't worry, Ben's been on Daley's case, exposing all of his corruption way before this olympics thing. I've been following his coverage for years, and hopefully the great coverage of the bid has brought in a bigger audience now that will get to see Ben "in his element," as I like to call it, taking on the Chicago political machine (like true journalists should be).

Great job, Ben et al. You guys love Chicago enough to hate the way it's being run, and I love you for it. All the mainstream papers are just reprinting rah-rah boosterism about how we aren't "the second city." No wonder they're going down the tubes.

Do you people think the IOC gave two shakes of a rattlesnakes tail about the circle jerk stories and comments on this free newspaper when casting their votes ?

Their votes were more a symbol of the anti-american sentiment that 8 years of George Bush foisted on the world.

The world hates America. Except when it come time to get our money.
The world has the USA on speed-dial whenever there is a earthquake or other natural disaster. The USA funds the World Bank, the United Nations, the World Court, and is the military protector of the free world.

Maybe it is time to inspect our largess and without it from an unappreciative world ?

"The world hates America."

ah, let the spin begin

The more Chicagoans learned about their bid, the less they liked it.
