The Schubas Empire? Step One

Posted by Miles Raymer on 08.06.09 at 01:19 PM

Greg Kot reports that the Schuba brothers are opening a new music venue this fall called the Lincoln Hall. The site, at 2424 N. Lincoln, is the old home of the 3 Penny movie theater, and as Kot notes it's just up the street from the former location of the fabled Lounge Ax, which could be considered either auspicious or ominous.

The capacity of the 4,400-square-foot room is estimated at about 500 people, which should allow Schubas to continue working with artists who've graduated from the smaller music room at the original venue. It also puts the Lincoln Hall in the increasingly competitive midsize-venue category, which includes not only standbys like the Double Door and Martyrs' but also relative new jacks like the Logan Square Auditorium and the Bottom Lounge.
