Given their scope and ambition she’s only performed her homages to Afro-Futurist writer Octavia Butler (“Xenogenesis Suite”) and Alice Coltrane (“Many Paths to the Sea”) a handful of times total in Chicago. She's joined by the extended version of her Black Earth Ensemble, with vocalist Mankwe Ndosi, trumpeter Robert Griffin, reedist David Boykin, cellist Tomeka Reid, bassist Josh Abrams, drummer Marcus Evans, and a special guest: pianist and harmonium player Myra Melford.
