While the idea of releasing thousands of drug offenders, who cost $23k a year to imprison, may have its merits, the fact that it would happen as the state cuts back on social service agencies (including, of course, numerous drug rehab programs and mental health agencies) gives me pause. Do send Progress Illinois additions to their layoffs tracker if you have them.
