Chicago 2016: The Musical

Posted by Ben Joravsky on 07.06.09 at 05:05 PM

Matthew Farmer, the singing lawyer, is at it again.

In January, Farmer and his band, the Blue State Cowboys, put together "Pay to Play (But Keep Love in Your Heart)," a biting satire about politics in Illinois.

Now they've recorded "Good King Rich," a song about Chicago's Olympic bid.

My favorite line: "We can't pay for salt when there's ice on the streets, but at least we'll have a velodrome."

That about says it all.

They should have a Daley song for how he ripped off the city with his parking meters.

King Richie, I think you made a boo-boo putting Chicago on the hook for the cost of the 2016 extravaganza, liar, liar set your pants on fire! The whole idea is losing steam because you want it both ways, don't lie to the people, honesty is the best policy, it can take you a long way. If you want to host such a massive event, guess what? Tax payers like you and me must pay the IOC for their franchise. No money, no games, got that! Maybe I The Socialist/Liberal should have been your advisor because I would have told you this; if you want a first class city that you can be proud of, the Olympics are a bad idea. Let's revamp our transit system to make it more efficient and easier to move around the city. Lets invest in first class public schools with the best technology, buildings, teachers and resources to have our children the best educated in the world. Lets invest in vibrant neighborhoods, clinics, hospitals, community colleges and have entreprenuerial incubators through-out Chicago tapping the small business spirit of Chicagoans. THIS WOULD BE A FIRST CLASS CITY, THE OLYMPICS WON'T GET YOU THERE! Should I go on King Richie? I think you get the idea! Any person with decent intelligence can get behind investing OUR money into excellent schools, clinics, hospitals, transit and neighborhoods. Why is this so hard for you? Why are you so stubborn and non-transparent? I think Chicagoans are feed up with your antics; parking meters, school closures, out-sourcing education on poor chidren, Meigs Field, Skyway, Midway, terrible transit, higher taxes, TIF'S, olympics. I digress King Richie, I'm tired.

Nice job Pat McDonough burning a fellow City Worker. The enemy is the Mayor not a family man working to make extra money. You just made Daleys job easy to eliminate more City Workers. Go back to DesPlaines Il were you belong and take Fran Spielman with you!

Hey City Worker, yes I agree, let's keep the pressure on Shortshanks, but maybe there is a bit of budget cutting that could be done at city hall? Maybe a little bit of fat that could be cut? We're all having hard times, and the city has a bloated budget. Let's talk about some sensible cuts before da mayor sells off something else.

Pat McDonough just gave the Mayor argument to get rid of more City Workers. The attention now is that the Unions are to blame for the budget crunch, but in reality it is the mayoras Team mismanagemnt with specila projects. The City Worker only makes up 3% of Daleys shortfall. How aboput the other 97% ?

McDonough your a goof. You are hurting all of your co-workers and the Mayor gets away with murder. Let me get this straight. You get paid double time as a Plumber for the City on weekends, than you bite the hand that feeds you? You are cutting your own throat.
