On Wednesday, talk show host Mark Bazer will lead a discussion of my favorite topic--TIFs--at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia.
He'll be interviewing alderman Scott Waguespack, Daniel O'Neil, co-founder of everyblock.com, and me. As Bazer notes, his guests are all pretty critical of the TIF program. So he'll play devil's advocate.
Good luck. If Bazer can find something good to say about the way Chicago runs its TIF program, he's got a great future in public relations.
If discussion of tax increment financing isn't your thing, they'll be serving soup and bread and, of course, drinks. Maybe Mayor Daley will even stop by to talk about TIFs ... or at least do his best Blago impression. We can hope.
The show begins at six.

I would like to obtain Ben Joravsky's email address. I write a column at igobaseballcards.com We have a lot of mutual friends and his column on John Seidman was a great column. I used to play softball with him on Saturday. (We still play) I can be reached at rseifert1917@yahoo.com
Here's something to sink your teeth into, Ben: "Pammy was on WLS radio this morning saying that she's going to do a follow-up story about the "unfair" parking tickets given to the citizens by the police. Pammy, you are totally clueless. The police aren't writing these bogus tickets, it's the TMA traffic aides and a bunch of other civilian city employees from other various city departments. They've have been handed parking-ticket books and told to write people for any violations they see. The problem is, half of them can't read the signs properly or they don't check for broken meters. They also don't check for permit stickers that allow people to legally park where they are at. Stop blaming the 'pee-on' police and go right to the source of the problem. I'll give you a hint, his office is on the 5th floor at City Hall. Do you need a map? 4/28/2009 02:04:00 PM" From the comments section on: http://secondcitycop.blogspot.com/
And here's where it really gets interesting: "How about the church on Vincennes... is it Oakdale or something like that? No parking/tow zone signs up and down Vincennes. On a church day, Vincennes is jammed with cars parking and holding up traffic with people trying to parallel park to get to church. Same thing on Longwood Dr. on EVERY school day. Longwood is narrow as it is, yet parents picking up their kids from school are lined up in the tow zone waiting to pick up their kids. Is it a big deal? No. So if THAT isn't a big deal then Pam, then why are you making THIS a big deal? Why don't you report on that? It happens ALL over the place, not just the police. Oh, and do police do anything about it? No, they look the other way because it IS NOT a big deal. Fine. If this becomes an issue, I'll make sure I have an extra parker book each day in the car so when I see all the churches and schools getting to park in the tow zones, I'll be sure to write each and every one of them. The city supposedly can use the money, right? Pick your battles, Pam. 4/28/2009 11:26:00 AM"
The Mayor, that guy on the fifth floor who has been the mastermind of all the corruption in this city for 20 years, sold the meters to a private company. the police hve nothing to do with what Daley did. Daley is looking for a fast dollar as usual. Daley is to blame.
