Michael Orlove, founder of the World Music Festival: Chicago and the guy largely responsible for making the Chicago Cultural Center one of the city's most important and progressive music venues, has been chosen to serve as one of the 7 Samurai for this year's WOMEX conference in Copenhagen in October. The prestigious event is the premier international meeting for the world-music business, with several days of performances, panel discussions, and networking, and the bands that play often end up touring the globe the following year. The 7 Samurai screen hundreds of submissions for the performance and panel slots and make the final choices. Orlove's appointment to this board only reinforces his growing importance as a world-music presenter and tastemaker.

Today's playlist:

Cluster, Cluster 71 (Water)
Pandit Pran Nath, Raga Cycle (Sri Moonshine)
Lydia Kavina, Spellbound! (Mode)
Bitter Tears, Jam Tarts in the Jakehouse (Carrot Top)
Motif, Apo Calypso (Jazzland)
