Seeing that I'm a member of the Dill Pickle Food Co-op, I'd be remiss if I didn't give tonight's benefit concert at AV-aerie (2000 W. Fulton) a little plug.

In case you're unfamiliar with the Dill Pickle, it's a community-owned grocery store in Logan Square (330 members and counting) that's planning on opening its doors by the end of spring. The project has been in the works for a couple years now, and with the recent signing of a lease at 3039 W. Fullerton (right across the street from the Logan Square library), it needs community support now more than ever.

Once the store does open, members and nonmembers alike will be able to shop there; the Dill Pickle will focus on carrying organic and locally produced goods. It'll be Chicago's sole food co-op and offer the city a much needed alternative to conventional grocery stores.

Tonight's concert will be teeming with volunteers and board members, just in case you feel inclined to become a member of the co-op right then and there. You can get in on the ground floor for $50, and then progress in $50 increments toward a $250 full membership. Other Dill Pickle pride items up for sale include organic cotton T-shirts and shopping bags.

The lineup tonight is Baby Teeth, Make Believe's Tim Kinsella, DJ Damon Locks of the Eternals, and Willis P. Jenkins (also known as Dill Pickle board president Billy Burdett). The all-ages concert begins at 8:30 PM, and there's a suggested donation of $12.

See you there.
