The Whole Hog Project: after the fire at Maveric Ranch

Posted by Mike Sula on 12.05.08 at 05:14 PM

Since the barn fire last month at Arie McFarlen's Maveric Ranch in South Dakota, which destroyed a group of mulefoot, Guinea, and Wessex Saddleback hogs, McFarlen has set up a fund to help "preserve the nine critically endangered hog breeds in the U.S., through genetic research, breeding protocols, placing animals on family farms, and developing a market for the pork."

There's a PayPal account set up on the Maveric homepage to handle donations to the Endangered Hog Foundation, and McFarlen has been blogging the recovery effort at the ranch.
