Now it makes sense

Earlier today the city's Department of Law handed aldermen copies of the accompanying flow chart (click on it to make it bigger) to provide them with some "clarity" on what business entities would be assuming control of the city's parking meters under a proposed $1.17 billion privatization deal.

Needless to say, it didn't exactly clear things up.

"Can anyone understand this chart?" finance committee chairman Ed Burke asked his colleagues. No hands went up, though it was eventually suggested that various Morgan Stanley entities appear to have the largest stake. A few minutes later another alderman dropped a copy of the chart in front of me. Across the top he'd written "CLARITY."

Of course, the committee still ended up signing off on the ordinance [PDF] that authorizes the deal. More on how and why shortly.

I can't tell from all those different MS LLC, INC and LTD's. But, I'm sure they're one of those boxes. Maybe that off-shore account box?

That chart is too pitiful to come from anything but a governmental entity, make that a Chicago governmental entity.

Isn't Morgan Stanley where Bill Daley Jr is? Someone connected is going to make money on this deal. Parking costs will go up. Parking opportunities will go down. Maximize profits--hurt taxpayers and residents of Chicago.

NEW SIDEWALK TOLLWAYS TO RAISE BILLIONS FOR CASH-STRAPPED CITY In a bold yet innovative move, City Hall today announced the launch of a new sidewalk tollway system, where pedestrains must pay one dollar per block to walk on sidewalks within Chicago city limits. "This will raise much needed capital for infrastructure improvements," Mayor Daley said. "I think citizens are really going to like this solution. And they're getting a great value!" Pedestrains can purchase a pre-loaded I-Pass for $2,500.00 or can pay the slightly higher rate of $1.25 per city block and wait in longer lines if they choose to pay in cash. Gates and lanes will usher pedestrians smoothly through each tollway and prevent anyone from walking for free. "Chicago really is a great city," said Lincoln Park Trixie. "It's so worth paying more for everything, to live in this filthy, crime-ridden community overrun with corruption and ne'er do wells. Life is really hard here and getting harder all the time! Why would anyone ever want to live anywhere else?"

a blue box is "NO EDS NEEDED"??? according to whom? My humble read of the disclosure law is that if a company is a partner, then each partner has to disclose, and so on, until the process bottoms out at live human beings we are doing a $1.2B deal and we don't know with who
