Performing Arts / Onstage / Arts Rogers Park theaters join forces

When the off-Loop theater movement began in the late 1960s, its main thoroughfare was Lincoln Avenue near Fullerton. The street was home to several groundbreaking troupes, including the Body Politic, Organic, and Kingston Mines. Today's equivalent seems to be Rogers Park--in particular the Glenwood Avenue Arts District near the Morse and Jarvis Red Line el stops. Four small companies in the neighborhood--Bohemian Theatre Ensemble, Lifeline, the Side Project, and Theo Ubique--are teaming up to offer a flexible subscription pass. The $50 pass is good for one show at each of the four theaters, and also entitles passholders to discounts at participating restaurants. Passholders can choose shows ranging from children's matinees to a new adaptation of Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, a musical version of Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba, and the long-running cabaret revue Jacques Brel's Lonesome Losers of the Night. Passes are available at each theater's box office, or online at the Side Project Web site .
