It's worth remembering that every time a journalist is too afraid to call a tampon a tampon, to paraphrase Anthony Lane, this sort of bullshit works just a little bit better, and every guy's complex about picking up maxi pads for his significant other gets a little worse. In the interest of equality I think we should refer to tissues and toilet paper exclusively as "unisex hygiene items."
